Hello from the latest noob!

Thank you all for the welcomes!

I grew up on The Blues Brothers, where a ton of mopars were junked. And Dukes of Hazzard. And A Team. And practically every 80’s movie with police cars.... dang those movies. Weirdly, me and the lady watched the first Terminator movie last night and of course, Monaco vs Eldorado chase scene doesn’t end well for the Monaco.... and so the rarity of one of my dream machines becomes more intense.

Welcome from NY.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks Don! A little update is that the guy I'm dealing with is really bad at communicating, so I'm not sure what day next week I can go check that Diplomat out. Texting one simple question seems to take hours for a vague reply, so I'm hoping this is going to be a real deal. Some of you probably know exactly what I mean, when dealing with someone who's vague? For example:

*me - "I'm very excited to come see the car. Do you have any more info on it, year etc? Thanks!
*him - LOL

What does that even mean? Is he yanking my chain over a $500 POS, or did he just read the words "I'm excited" ??

My kingdom for sellers who are detailed and excited to pass info on! Give me strength.... :-D

Diplomat is 90% a 318, 7% a 225 6 cyl

Careful with cabs, especially independent cabs- high miles and deferred maintenance issues.

Giveaway to police pkg is a certified speedometer.

...and "the big motor" would be a 360- 3% chance.

You could likely find a real "K" code or A38 cop package M body car in decent shape for a couple thousand.....if you're patient.

Thank you!! I do have to admit, the first thing I thought of when I saw the "taxi livery" was "ahhh sh*t, that's going to have intergalactic mileage!"

Patience is a virtue, but it's also getting old :( But since I happened upon this Diplomat, I have become more interested in the cop package cars, and of course, this site has opened my eyes up a lot, so I appreciate all of you.

If you allow my two cents...I'd be more inclined to say "I'm interested in seeing the car" my guess is he's thinking his car isn't let's say much to be excited about and he will have to lug a whole bunch of stuff to get the car accessible from the looks of the photo. If you're looking for a cop car this one might be a parts car for it...check it out for what it's worth..

I'll also call attention to our sister forum- For FMJ bodies only.

While not as active as FBBO, the members there are specialists in, well, F, M, and J body cars.

I've had 3 M bodies. They were great cars, quite fond of them.

Thanks guys!

That little Diplomat is going to (hopefully) serve me well for education on these Dodges - l am a Volkswagen guy, and old VW's are a very different beast to most other things out there. With any luck, Dippy will learn me until my Monaco/Fury comes along :)

Well, I'm sad to update the fact that I cannot get a hold of the seller now, so I am not sure if this deal will even materialize.

The search continues :-(

Hi guys.

Here's a little update. I joined a facebook group which is called something like Monaco/Polara Owners, and posted up that I was looking for a 77-79 Monaco/Fury four door sedan. Shortly after, a really nice guy reached out to me and said he had one...for sale...in Utah....that runs and drives really good...with 101,000 miles from new!!!

Can you believe that?? I still can't believe it. Decades have passed since I first began looking for one! That's the power of Facebook, I guess.

Anyways, I know you guys like pictures BUT I don't want to be disrespectful to the current owner, although we have messaged a lot back and forth and agreed on a price, and I'm pretty sure I will drive the 2.5hrs north to go get it this weekend. So with that, I won't post all the pics he sent me, but here's a little teaser for you!

Wish me luck! I can't wait to post that it's my ride! Cheers! Gary.

Hi guys!

Latest update:

The Diplomat seller went completely quiet, and has not answered my messages since he sent the pictures. With respect and as to not hassle him, I've given up on that car. I don't think it was what I really wanted anyways. I want a 78 Monaco.

The 78 Monaco seller went completely quiet too. I'm ready to make the trip, pay the money and some of my family-in-law have a big flatbed trailer and a truck I can use to go get it. But still nothing from the seller. With respect I am not blowing his phone up with messages now, so I've unfortunately no choice but to give up on that car too.

On a facebook group, a guy in Utah who "has three of em" sent me some pics of one he's cannibalized for demo derbies, which seems to be his thing, and each to their own. Anyways, last week he said he'll "get me pics next week if yer interested" which if course I said yes please! Well, he's gone quiet. I messaged him but no response.

The frustration is becoming obsession. I've been a car guy since I was a child, so I know the search for rarities can get frustrating, fruitless, teasing, and all the way back to frustrating again....but that's part of the glory of finding what you want - not just with cars - but in this case, I am becoming obsessed with finding one.

I hope I am building the right energy and I can sustain the positive aura, until the day one arrives in my life!
