Was pulling the old crank out of my 400 to put in a steel 3.75" crank and noticed it was taking a looong time for the connecting rod stud nut to come off, turns out it's just spinning there, it won't tighten or loosen. There's maybe 8 of 'em like that. How do I get these things off.....could I just cut em off with a cutting wheel??? Looks like I'm gonna have to replace the studs/bolts anyways. Please help.

Btw I'm the one that installed this crank nearly a year ago and I double checked everything was torqued to spec, how did they manage to strip, if that is what happened, when the block is just sitting on the stand???

You could cut the nut off, then see if the rod is shot, if they're all doing it i wouldn't even dick around with trying to see if it's the bolts or rod id replace all the rods

Thanks, already put on a fresh new cutting wheel :D Good thing I have a couple other sets of rods laying around lol

I have no idea how they managed to get stripped, but if you put new bolts you should have the rods resized. Reason is the cap may not align to the rod the same after the new bolts are in.

How many ft lbs of torque did you put on your con rod nuts when you assembled it? Seems like the proper torque is 45 ft lbs. Sounds like you may have over torqued the nuts and stripped the threads. Also be sure your torque wrench is working properly.

Well I had an extra set of rods lying around so I'm just gonna use those, not even gonna mess the original rods.

That's about the only thing I could come up with, it's a generic torque wrench anyhow haha
