This came in my 70 charger 4 speed power steering car. Clearly not correct for the car, as it appears to be a column shift. The shop doing the wiring seemed to think this was an e body column, but I’m not so sure.

Based on the lockout location, I would guess this is a 1970 column at least. Is this a 70 power steering column shift column?

Just trying to figure out what it is and what it’s realistically worth, since I don’t need it.

Thanks for any input.

The pictured steering column is for a 1970 B-body, with floor shift, and with power steering.

Column shift column would have a casting protrusion for the shift lever to attach with a pin.

Interesting. What is the hole in the sleeve there for?

The hole in the lower housing is the access point for the 1/8" hex Allen set screw that secures the inner lock tube to the housing internally, on the floor shift cars in 1970. The inner lock tube extends into the engine compartment and ends with the lever that connects to the column lock front rod. The column lock front rod connects via linkage to the floor shifter to lock it in park when the key switch is turned off.

This arrangement was not used on the 1969 and earlier cars with the dash mounted key switch. 1971 cars with floor shift switched to the manual release finger lever on the column (except C-body).

On column shift cars, the lower housing is the shift housing and contains the column shifter which connects to a similar tube that is used as the shift tube instead. A similar set screw is used to secure the tube and is accessed through the shifter mount hole after shifter removal.
