help! what is a clone called

One of those never ending questions.
If you can’t see the numbers, there’s probably no way to ask the question without risking pissing off or insulting the owner.
Built the car himself. Didn’t want the real thing. Figured he couldn’t drive it anyway.
Whatever. It’s a sensitive subject to some.
If you can’t see the numbers, best to just look and reserve your comments out of ear shot, if you have any.
That’s good general advice I try and follow on people’s cars regardless.

Maybe just ask them: “Is this a whatchamacallit?” if you can't see it.

I’m going to go with “imitation” as the best term for the animal in question.
Seems the most accurate term. But will never catch on.
No flair.

1. im·i·ta·tion
ˌimiˈtāSHən/
noun

noun: imitation; plural noun: imitations
1.
1
.
a thing intended to simulate or copy something else.

Exactly, tallhair.
That's in the definition of "imitation".
But it will never catch on.
Not cool enough.
We could start a trend though.
Against the world.

I would love to do some donuts with the Birdable!
Watching that wing swing around with no roof in the way has to be a beautiful sight.

What I hate are classic car dealer ads like this one. This is a 440 six pack, nothing A12 about it. Why list it as a Roadrunner A12 when it is not. When you read the ad detail it is apparent it is an A12 clone. If it never had an A12 on the original fender tag it is not an A12 and never will be. Very nice car, but no A12. Be upfront about it and list it as an A12 tribute in the big print.

I got one clone here..mainly because I could not afford the real thing....I drive the hell out of it

Funny thing, the guys that quickly point out that it's a clone are the guys with "check-book cars" that never see the road or a full tank of gas

Along those lines, here is one to ponder........ and I mean ponder good, unless it's a survivor all original shown as it is with no mods and 40+ years of wear and tear it is not a pure car.......now the pondering part......... I see a lot of restorations being sold as pure factory original cars. I laugh all the time when I see it because we all know that a restoration in today's market was done with repop parts mostly from china and to call that a pure factory original is more of a sin then the working guys just trying to build what they want and enjoy it with today's parts availability.

How many of you see a fully done restoration being sold on BJ's for 80k? and then see it at shows and hearing the new owner brag that it is a factory original, and daring anyone to dispute it! lol classic

i'm writing an article and i'm having a brain fart. What do some people call a car that has been made up to be something more than what it is. The word i'm thinking of is like a dedication, but i can't pinpoint it.
Help
fun

Wow. Tribute was the word I was looking for. FYI, the article had nothing to do with cars. Sorry I asked.

well the government says if you copy money it is counterfeiting

Technically, a clone is an exact copy. If I take a 69 Belvedere and build it so the only way to tell it wasn't born an A12 is to look at the VIN, I guess it isn't a clone. Tribute, reproduction, money pit that will never be worth what I got in it, but not a clone, right?

I hate all the people who say it 's a clone, repop, fake , wantabe ! If I dress up a Clinoton on holloween do I get a Monica for a treat ? LOL!!
NO !
I think it a Tribute to a lost super car from the past and those who say hot don't have a CLUE !

My EX wife is a Clone of the DEVIL if that counts ?:angryfire:
