Hey all! I’m new to this website and this is my first post. I’m Nolan I’m 20 years old and I’ve got a 1970 coronet 4 door that I’m currently building into a fun/mild strip build. I know for certain I want a blown 440 with a 4 speed. But I’m not exactly certain on how to build engines. I’m good with tools and I understand mechanics, but the specifics of how to get compression ratios to work with every certain part and supercharging an engine and keeping it all from falling apart is where I need some help! I’m looking to make a 400-600 hp 440 that’s blown. All I really know is that I’ll need forged crank and rods and pistons. As for everything else I’m a little lost. Any help or wisdom would be appreciated.

My main questions are

How do I know what parts are compatible with others?

How do I shop for heads that’ll work with boost.

I want a good lopey cam for sure! Power isn’t a huge concern as it’s mainly just for fun. I need to understand this better before I go to squeezing power out of it. But that is an eventual goal.

400-600 hp is easily possible without going to a blower. 600 is about the max for a 440 block before you start getting distortion on The main bearing caps.
You can also call Indy cylinder and they can give you a list of what you need and of course happily sell them to you

Get a 440 out of a motorhome, add a blower on top. You'll have 7.8-1 compression or so and the cast crank will take it for awhile. I'd check bearings and install new valve springs and seals. If you have engine problems, just source another one. You can spend way more but this will get you what you are looking for.

This really seems like the way to go, I could save all the money and build it how I want, but I want to drive my car! Is there anything to look out for on the RV engines, I thought some could have forged cranks

For the price of most supercharger kits, you could build the engine to make that power NA.
If it is more for cosmetics, and not making much boost or using old worn out supercharger (cost), then you could add one to a stock/near stock engine.
Forged crank is important for the blower drive because it is in single shear. Blower belt tension / slack is also important so the crank snout does not break.
