I am running my stock axles in a stock 8 3/4 with an auburn posi. I am replacing my 383 with a 500hp/550torque stroker motor. The rear gear is a 3:91 with stock drive shaft and a stock rebuilt 4 speed. I have read many post that the 83/4 should hold up fine with that power. Should I replace the axles? One spline on one axle had a chip missing. I reused them at the time because I was only running the 383.
Can the stock drive shaft and tranny handle the new stroker power? It is a street car only and will never see a slick. I am running a p275/60r15 tire.

It should be fine. If as you say it will never see a slick you should be fine. Hard launch with a hard hook up it what is the hardest on a rear end.

Even if it isn't and you have to replace it later the price will be the same. If it is your only transportation then of course down time later may be a problem.

Although didn't you mention using your stock tranny with this? I have a little hesitation on that one but then again run it and if it breaks replace at that time.

Thanks Guys for the feedback. I will leave the drive shaft and tranny at this time and hope it holds up. What about the axle that has the chip in it? Should I replace them both to be safe?

That axle shold not be a problem

The best money/insurance you can buy is a driveshaft loop and they are cheap and easy to install.
