I need a little help with my project.
I am ready to install the rear crossmember into my 69 Charger.
There are small metal extensions at the top of the frame rails, that look like they would weld on top of the crossmember.
In this picture they are circled and have been bent up out of the way

Here is what it looks like with the crossmember in place

So my 1st question is should these extensions be welded on top of the xmember?

My next concern is if they are to be welded to the top of the crossmember, then the trunk pan has no recessed area to allow for this bump up. Which will leave a gap.

Kind stuck and not sure what to do.
Anyone have any pictures of this area?

I can try to look at mine but with it all done I'm not sure how well I'll be able to see it. I replaced every piece of the rear on mine except the crossmember and don't remember dealing with those so I'm thinking they do attach to the crossmember. I'll take a look as soon as I can

thanks for posting this question and the great pics. I need to have the same done for my 68 Charger. Let me know how this turns out.

Got a chance to crawl under the Charger and they are clearly visible, the tabs go right on top of the cross member and the trunk floor sits right on top of them. Didn't have my camera on me but if you want pics I can get them.

Thanks 747! I would appreciate some pics.

Hopefully these will do, the bedliner under my car doesn't take very good pics but you can see that they do sit between the cross member and trunk.

Hey thanks for the pics 747! Your right I see that they definatly are on top of the xmember.
I figured so but it's always good to verify.
Hope you did'nt get to dirty get those pics!:toothy11:

Hey 747 or anyone.
Could I get a few pics of the rear valance?
I need views showing the bottom lip of the valance.
maybe showing how far the lip extends onto the rear x-member.
And is the lip tight (no gap) against the x-member?
Also is there a crown right at the center (this would be looking at it from the back)

Mine probably isn't the best example because I wasn't very happy with the fit of this junk ABS panel but I did use a virgin Charger for comparison. The Charger that I looked at was 100% original, the valence overlapped the cross member on the outsides but right inward of the frame rails it starts to creep away leaving about a 1/2" gap in the middle (there should be 2 tabs that secure the area that is held away from the car). I can provide pics but mine won't be the best example, the crappy panel I bought was missing the tabs so I had to make my own and I didn't care about correctness just function and appearance. I'll try to get some tonight but I'd PM Charlie, Hunt and Daytona as well if you want a correct looking one.

charlie

Thanks Charlie,
Maybe someone has some original pics, or a AMD valance.

As for the 1st situation, mine was different. I replaced the rear frame rails and they didn't have the tabs like yours. I'd cut them off and weld that area level if I were you. I'll try to get a pic of the valance fit also.

I must have been wiggling a little Don, some are a little fuzzy. Kind of hard to get a decent shot with the gas tank and exhaust in the way. Let me know if you need more.

Looks like they got the pics covered, they show the tabs I was referring to that support it in the center too.:wtg:

Here's a pic of my valance. Mine didn't seem to fit well., I was wondering what to do with the tabs, glad you brought up this question.

At least yours came with them haha

Thanks Hunt,
Hunt, your pics (2-4) especially show how it is gaped away from the x-member, and the other pics show how the ends are pulled in tight.
I assume the tabs were welded and the ends? So if I were to lay on the ground and look up there would be 4 plug welds?
Hunt, the other thing I was wondering,,, did you mount the bumper and adjust the valance in or out to get the right amount of clearance behind the bumperette and then weld the tabs and corners?

747, my valance does not have the tabs either. great something else to do :BangHead:
Anyone have an AMD rear valance????

Thanks kid, I think I may do just that!

The tabs of the valance are plug welded to the crossmember. I did trial fit the bumper and bumperettes before welding anything solid.
