Several years ago I read about "flex agent" that could be added to paint for things like plastic bumpers.

I've seen lots of our cars with paint peeling from the hood hinges.

Anyone use flex agent additive for hinges?

I asked at the supply store where I bought my paint, and they acted like I was crazy.

Thanks.

I'm pretty surprised an auto paint supply store has no idea about flex agents. Must have talked with the new guy or something. It's seen often for painting over plastics and is utilized quite a bit with the big MFG's now a days.

I've never ran into too many issues with hood hinges having the paint crack. A good epoxy primer covered up by BC/CC always seems to hold up fine on my end. I'm guessing a majority of paint issues with hinges are due to improper prep or cleaning.

If it would give you a bit more piece of mind, a product called Bulldog Bond- flex tie coat
works well for that type of application. Also some of the big MFG's like PPG, SEM, DuPont ect...ect... make flex agents as well.
Powder coating is also an option seeing they have come a long way in means of matching paint.

Just my 2 cents.......Good luck!

Its all in the prep work, I would blast the hinges if possible then epoxy them. Also less coats are less likely to chip so no need for lots of clear.

Cleaned / blasted, then PPG DP40 Epoxy followed by your top coat.
