How long does diesel fuel last?

I got diesel in big generators that only excersize twice a year, some tanks have 10 year old diesel that burns just fine.
This
Newspaper I worked for had two 650kva generators, the fuel was more then 10 years old. I’d test them weekly, never had issues.

We have a lot of heavy equipment that sits for years and never have a problem with stale diesel. And I'm in northern Ohio. As for summer winter blends, I believe with the biodiesel a lot of that has changed. About 10 years ago winter blend diesel was nothing more than kerosene. If you knew that, you'd go to the diesel pump and get your kerosene for $2 a gallon instead of the $5 for kerosene. But I think it's changed. I have a friend who hauls fuel, he'd know.

Yup, ur kinda right. For a fleet, you can order a mix of #2 and kerosene. The more Kero, the higher the cost per tankerful. Anymore, you can probably order a biocide added in. Always a balancing act.

Furthermore, back in early 80’s; I was in Allentown,Pa. when a big cold front came thru the Midwest. Our semi’s were ones of few still running east of the Mississippi, our parts guy had ordered 90/10 Kero just before it hit. Costly?, yes; but the trucks kept running. Still cheaper than road calls for stopped trucks.

And, any blend other that straight #2; the fuel mileage drops rather fast.
