My mom had a leaky outside faucet. It ran down the basement wall and soaked the carpet. The restoration guys came with big fans and dried things out. I'm restreching the carpet back in place and putting some new sheetrock back where they cut out holes to dry things. Two 6"x 6" holes in the wall and one 1' x 2' hole in the ceiling. We also have to move a bunch of furniture back. I want to be fair but I tend to underestimate my charges. I'm not a pro but I'm pretty good.

1) $8000.00 because someone else is paying for it,
-or-
2) Nothing, because you love your mom and her rates will go up when she files the claim
-or-
3) Nothing, because she still has to pay the deductible and that could be $500 to $2500, so you are just overcharging her anyway
-or-
4) Handiman work in our area gets $25 per hour.

I think she gets the mom discount, so $20 per hour and you split a few beers.

if your Good and Fast $20./25. may not be enough, here in California Mexicans get paid by the day, $250./300. per day (regardless of hours worked) for the guys who really know what they are doing...$150. for the guys who are good but need baby setting, Then your mom discount IMO

you should always get estimates before you start to see what others charger

It sounds like the insurance co already cut the check equal to the appraiser's amount, and your mom hired the fire/water resto guys and wants to be fair and pay you for your handiwork too.

If so, she's your mom. Have her take you out to a steak dinner and she can keep the rest.
