HP blocks

I think it was a replacement crank, it could have been the "cheaper" way to go at the time for the previous owner. It was 35 years ago when I got it. Its still the same. The block is "HP" for sure. and the rods look super strong, it just has to be externally balanced. ( I would sell this complete motor)
I just can’t figure out why some pay extra for an HP stamp. It’s just an hourly workers job to designate that the internals are HP. All the blocks in any given year are pretty much the same.

These same people pay extra for cars that came with "426 hemi" badges on the fender.
Weird but not weird.

440hp in Charger ralleye in '72, Gtx and police cars. I think all the 440hp's may have received steel cranks? Our 73 does.
I've got a '72 HP 440 "H". It has 6 pack rods and cast crank. I think it came out of a 'Cuda.

By 72 the bb was gone as a option for the E bodies as far as I know? 340 was it.

This thread reminds me of a car:p

Definitely 1967. I own one. Every HP engine I've seen were at least a four barrel and dual exhaust from the factory. My '62 361 is stamped HP. First year for the 361, developed for the Polara 500. 4bll and dual exhaust.

Since this thread is about as jacked as they get...... recent discussion about 400`s with HP stamp....haven't seen a pic of one yet....anyone???

Were the 1966 365 hp. 440 dual exhaust motors in "C" bodies stamped HP? As opposed to 350 hp. single exhaust. I know these engines still had the smaller port/exhaust valve heads. HP engines also had windage trays from factory.
I bet the 1966 do have HP on them. They have a different VIN code for the engine.

yes the blocks are all the same. Just like a4 speed cars, nothing special from a23 spline to and 18 spline casea or tailhousing. The bearings sizes changed, and yes the 1966-1967 hemi 4 speed has small 307 bearings.

In all the 440's & 440's blocks I've had over the years , HP stamping meant nothing to me. I just looked at the cylinder sonic test numbers.

So what did we decide was the answer to the OP question? What years did HP get stamped on the 440 blocks, 67-72?

Still a good question. My experience was only with '68, '70, & '71 440 blocks that had the HP stamp. Think I had a '72 400 cop block HP stamped.

What I've researched was there wasn't any 440 HP stampings in 1966. 1967 was the first year.

Chrysler had an optional 440 for their 300 models called the TNT440 365 horse power.

Gee not sure where those specs came from, but many are not correct. A 440 had a 3.75 stroke and a 4.32 bore as stock. The 4.25 bore was for a 426 Wedge. No idea what those 1972-74 dimensions relate to.
