It's actually quite a great place to work, the Chevy calls are non stop but it's a blast and a half to get to work there. Anyone needs parts just pm me for my phone extension, can't give discounts but you'll get a mopar guy that knows what you're talking about and need instead of a Chevy or ford guy googling and guessing at it.

Welcome and Stella is SWEEET!

can you tell if it's the steering linkage hitting something, a tight spot in the box, or a bearing or obstruction in the column?

I has some loose rust from a steering wheel adapter get into the column and it caused a grinding sound and slight bind.

Took off the wheel and adapter, and blew it out. Fixed.

Have a friend turn the wheel while you look under the car to check the linkage, or disconnect the pittman arm.

Also remember 73 is a one year only rag joint and they're not reproduced.

Mine separated, causing about 10 degrees of slop. I'm in the process of replacing it with a real hockey puck.

Note the 74 style joint is the same as ford and was used all the way into the late 80's in trucks. $10 at advance/o'reilly's, but uou have to swap the whole 74 column all the way to the splined connector that goes on the box.

I've also seen people try to tighten slop out of the box, and cause it to bind.

There's another member- Coronet 14, restoring a 73 4D. He's got good pics and tech info.

It's definitely in the column, I haven't even pulled the wheel off to investigate anything yet, just trying to get my ducks in a row before I go dismantling the thing all willy-nilly.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to peruse his profile and pick his brain for sure lollol

Is it really pretty straight forward? I have the fsm and ability, really interested mostly in what I need to make absolutely positively sure not to break or anything to watch out for in particular.
