Initial timing too advanced

If your replacing the cam too , why would you go with anything but a 3 bolt cam if you can get one, the center bolt cams have either a woodruff key or a hardened dowel pin, I've sheared both and have the gear turn , maybe I'm a little harder on mine then most but why take that chance

I am thinking about a cam replacement, mainly as i am not really happy with it because of low vacuum and poor idle behaviour...long story..dont ask.
The cam and lifters are not worn out or anything so from a technical perspective it is not a requirement.
Though i am a bit stuck as the cam i want, shorter duration and more LSA, less overlap than currently, is going to give me a higher DCR and i am borderlining already with a 10.5 compression ratio with iron heads.
So it is a bit of a difficult choice to make what to do with it.
But if i go for it i would opt for the 3-bolt configuration as you recommend.
