Insulating the shifter cable from header heat 65 Coronet

Just had the same problem a mechanic friend took a piece off copper tubing, cut it long ways, put it over the wire and clamped it back tight. It was not touching the header, but very close. Said he has done this numerous times and it always worked. I thought the copper would conduct the heat and still burn the insulation, but it hasn’t. Good luck
