I have a 68 383 w/mild cam some head work, upgraded fuel pump. I have a holley 750 double pumper. It is sitting on a old edelbrock manifold and am ready for a upgrade. I am looking for better low end or outa the hole performance. What intake to go to and anything else I can do to improve low end performance. I have 3:55 gears/sure grip posi. My car is a 73' Charger and as you all know a HEAVY car. Thanks for any help, Dave

When you say old edelbrock which one are you talking about? I know the edelbrock performer has an rpm range of idle - 5500 and the RPM is 1500 - 6500. If you're looking for a dual plain performer I have one for sale.

re/manifold ?'s

I don't know. A guy at work who put it on said he had to trim or modify the intake to use the carb. He also put in for me a pertonix distributer igniter 2, coil, and other things. It started out a stock 318/column shift and has been going on since. Rebuilt motor (383), new tranny, then a torque converter change, console, slapstick shifter. Then yukon 3:55 gears, sure grip posi and on and on. After getting this thing running right then off to "make it look pretty" I have had a lot of classic cars in the past but bought them done. 63 vette, 70 chevelle 454SS, 70 Z28, 69 Nova SS, 66 Impals SS, then a V8 Vega of all things. This is probably the wrong hobby for me $ wise BUT I miss the classic car thing and wanted and got this Mopar. I will find out and get back to ya. Dave

The single most noticeable improvement you can do for the money to increase low end is to go to a deeper gear. I'd just go with a 3.91 or 4.10 and just deal with the extra RPM on the highway. What size tire are you running?

As far as intakes go a dual plane like an Edelbrock would be good assuming your cam matches up.

What other reason to have a Vega unless you are putting a V8 in one? Pinto as well for that matter. Nice list of cars - even if they are Chevys :tongueflap:

Thank you for your response as well as the others. To be honest, im not real sure of the cam, I think the guy who did the motor said it was a hemi grind if that makes any sense. The motor swap was 4 years ago and i am just now ready to finish my beast and enjoy it! I got it inexpensivly done at the time to run and now am upgrading what I did not do or should have done then. Things to do and get for these cars are endless not to mention colors, striping, hoods etc. It is a bit overwhelming. What I do like about the whole thing is you can make it your own AND there is not one on every corner. That in itself makes it all worth while. I think I will go for the performer dual plane. As for the rearend Randy's ring and Pinion did it and I will take it back for the 3:91's which I got talked out of at first. Tires, well I got T.A.'s all around and I will look at the size BUT they are wide, I believe as big as they make front and back. I bought what I thought were ralley wheels (steel) but the more I learn I think they are cop wheels. Little slots, gray in color 15's? They need center caps and beauty rings I think. I am open to change, maybe smaller tires in front and back, different wheels like those 500 magnum's or? I did get the interior done and I am very happy with it. It looks killer. The outside will be the last thing im gonna have done. I need time to decide what I want done. I'm thinking that petty blue, flat black hood, white strypes would look good on this car. It has a new white vinyl top as well. Well enough for now I got a headache thinking so much and got to get back to work. By the way, I did have a few great cars even if they were all Chevy's. As for the Vega that thing was scary fast but fun to "pose" in as were the others back in the day. I'm 54 so ya'll get the picture. Tks again all of you and keep the help and tips coming I have been out of the loop for a long time BUT STILL LOVE IT! nothing like the sound and smell of a big block and burning rubber.........

The HEMI cam is a great first level performance grind and in my experience it's functions better with a nice single plane like a torker. I would think the free breathing performer RPM would work as well or maybe better https://chenowethspeedandmachine.com/store/images/ede7186.jpg

With that cam 9.5 - 10:1 compression is your friend.

I was thinking if you had a tall tire your effective gear ratio would be taller so the more reason to go to a 3.91. Those 71-74 Chargers look great slammed with wide tires.

I can't think of the 70's without thinking about a V8 Vega or Pinto. They were staples.

Best of luck getting the rubber to burn
