Is all B5 blue the same?

I have a '69 Roadrunner B5 blue that needs the hood redone. Not knowing the existing paint brand used will I have an issue with it matching up? Thanks

Yes, unfortunately. Especially not knowing which brand of paint, there will be colour match issues.
The best your shop can do if you're concerned with keeping costs down is fog/blend the colour over to the tops of the fenders then clear to the fender body line where it drops to vertical.

Still, you'll notice.

Can you contact the previous owner and ask for information on the paint brand used? That would be the best scenario.

If you need a temp fix till you sort it out, you could wrap it in flat black. Around here a hood can be wrapped for $125. The wrap can be removed when ready.

Great idea. OP could also do the stripes...which cover most of the hood.

Find a painter who's really good at color matching and blends.[hagerty insurance would have a list of such people?] My guy is amazing at that sorta stuff, but those guys are out there. There's no way I'd put the black stripes on that beauty.[2-cents]

Maybe the stripes are on the fender tag, just not replaced after the respray?

Is all B5 blue the same?

No.

There are several shades of B5. Each was released a different year.

B5 indicates a medium blue shade but only relative to the color palette released for that particular model year.

There is EB5 for 1969. That's the color you, probably, want if your car was shot in the original color.

There is also GB5, KB5, MB5 and PB5.

Make sure you specify EB5 for a '69 (again, assuming your car is in the original color)

Find a paint supplier that has a color match camera.

The one local to me is 100% spot on, but it depends on the equipment and the operator.

Just got back from my paint guy who mainly uses PPG but he said his Sikkens rep has the camera and it's been basically 0.0% every time. Makes me feel better for the outcome. Thanks!
