Is it just me or do led work lights suck?

An "old school" sealed beam look with an LED element sure would sell, I'd bet.
Hell those "imac" looking ones sell and some are crazy expensive.
Not sure why no one has offered one for us old car guys.
The ones that I got for my Jeep from JW Speaker looked sort of old school, not the ring of LED’s that look dumb. I don’t know if they fit other vehicles, though. The ones I got weren’t “one size fits all”, they have lenses that focus the beam specifically for the models they are designed for. The even make them for Harley Davidsons.
Because of the way the lens focuses the beam they are not the same as just putting a brighter LED in a housing, they actually are focused so that they are “tight” on the drivers side and focus past oncoming traffic, and illuminate more of the ditch. Up here where many people die in collisions with moose and Buffalo they are life savers.

The best ones I have found are the Harbor Freight Icon

what are you guys liking for a magnetic underhood LED shop light? I want something that will easily stick under the hood and long enough to illuminate the whole engine bay but not have too much of a problem casting shadows.

I have been doing drywall for 40 years we used halogen lights when sanding to check for imperfections, we tried led worklights for that, will not work it floods the surface and actually covers the imperfections, never would have thought that, but it does. I have new led lights in my new shop bright as hell, would never use them in a paint booth, or for detail work.

I love the LED's. Especially the Day light ones. I replaced the 8' Ballast tube lights with LED's in my shop. They are twice as bright and use less than a third of the watts. I replaced the dash lights with LED's and the tail lights in my Charger. Much brighter and I get lots of comments from people asking where I got them. Here is a pic of the Brake lights. They never hot like the incandescents do and if I ever get rear-ended, it won't be because my lights were too dim. I have no opinion on LED headlights since I have not had a need for them. Some people say they are too bright and the glare is terrible.
I have a couple of the Harbor Freight rechargable Braun hand held work lights that I use all the time now in place of my corded drop light.

Hello, I'm actually replying to something you posted back in January about having some red battery caps. Replies are turned off for that post and for whatever reason I can't send you a DM. Can you let me know how if you still have some of the screw in caps? Red preferred but..... Thanks, Mike

Probably because his inbox is full....or yours is.

It was my inbox.... I didn't realize all the holiday message were still in there... lol
Thanks

Some LED’s are great and some suck. Here’s my experience…
I am a radio guy. Shortwave, Ham, pirate etc. I bought Chinese four foot LED replacent tubes for my shop fluorescents. The power supplies in them were so poorly designed that they generated radio noise that wiped out everything. Expensive mistake to toss 16 new LED tubes.
Some LED headlights are just LED bulbs that are brighter and much harsher. Drivers coming towards you hate you, and the harsh white light is fatiguing for the driver, as well. I ended up getting headlights for my Wrangler from JW Speaker. They aren’t just brighter; they have lenses that focus the beam in such a way that they don’t blind oncoming traffic. Up here in the arctic where it is dark much of the time they are a game changer. It made it possible for me to drive in the darkness and actually relax. They are expensive but for those of us in the sticks they are a bargain.

Replaced all my overhead lighting in my shop from 4-foot fluorescents to Led's. Easy swap and put out more light than the old tubes. Bought a Halogen work light and it got really hot under the car. But could see a lot better. Led's are cooler for sure.
I have a mix of fluorescent and leds in my garage.
No more than a couple months ago, I made sure all the fluorescent worked, and had new bulbs. (Chucked two or three fixtures that needed ballasts) . In the shop the other day, I thought the light was poor.
All of the fluorescent had one bulb out, one had both.
If I didn't still have a box of bulbs (10 or so left from a box of eighteen) they would all be in the trash, replaced by LED's.
Got a hand-held rechargeable led for under car work, with a built in stand. FAR superior to the old incandescent trouble light!

It is nice not to get burnt by the trouble light and to know that if something drips on it your safe. LED lights do have their place... sometimes the shadows are bad though.

My stepdad a life long mechanic had a pair of work glasses kept in his roller box when he got older that had the bi focal in the top of the lens.
Made things much better when working under a lift or off a creeper.
