Is there a rectangular seal under the 727 trans?

I replaced the rear trans mount in Uncle Bill's Cuda this week. It looks like there is a rectangular seal under a metal plate held on with two Phillips screws. I wiped it off and it was wet the next day. Mind you, I had already drained the trans to replace the speedometer cable housing seals and install a new dipstick.

Is there a seal under the trans mount? I need to know ASAP before I fill the trans.

Thanks

Yes a rectangular cork gasket.

Yes a rectangular cork gasket.
Is it the snap ring access cover gasket like Fran mentions in post #81 here? If so, where can I find one?

I found a tail housing seal kit that includes the gasket I need at a couple online stores. I may try and make one, as Fran suggested and save $65.

Some kits include that in a paper type gasket material..... I would certainly try and make one up before I spent money too. Good Luck.

Does the transmission fluid need to be drained to replace the gasket and/or output shaft seal? I'm thinking lifting the rear high enough should prevent any leaks without draining the trans fluid.

Good chance you'll be ok... just be prepared lol.

Not much will come out. The speedo gear is right by it, and lower.

I just ordered the output shaft seal and a Fel Pro gasket material kit that includes cork and paper materials of different thicknesses. So, I will wait and do the job and then add the trans fluid.

Thanks for all the help, fellas.
