Is this flywheel usable?

It's $60 to $80 Around here to get them ground.

Well i tried to imply that i would find a shop that could....and then find out how much. If it's $15, sure, cut it and lets see what we've got. If the "cracks" go away, then you're good. If not, youre out $15. If its $75, it's shopping for a new one time.
A new flywheel might be an excellent investment in peace of mind.

Sorry, definitely didn't mean to put words in your mouth. It sounds like having the flywheel resurfaced may be a good option. I don't really plan on beating on it, FWIW -- the motor is a low compression motorhome deal so without some work it will likely fall on its face above 5k anyway. In any event, a $200 flywheel is definitely cheaper than hospital bills, but if those marks are heat checking and not something structural, I'm not keen on spending when I don't have to either.

I bought a new one from Jegs for right around $100,, but its Chinese made
Think I'd go with a heat cracked USA made one before going with a Shinese one :D

Hey DadsBee, I see you have that baby chucked on the I.D. of the bore. Just how do you indicate the bore and the face that bolts to the flywheel?????
Another way is to machine a stub mandrel and bolt it on but you can also indicate on the OD where there's no wear....and the bore doesn't matter if it's running out just so long as the face is running true but I like to be at least close on the bore. That's where the stub mandrel comes in.

"Stub Mandrel"- that's gonna be my new porno name.

I had mine resurfaced a few months ago, heat checking was worse than yours and cleaned up good. It had some rust pits from years of sitting, and immediately after resurfacing, it looked great, but a couple of days later the pits showed back up. I think it’ll be OK as is though. I called around, and only a few places still resurface them. I called a transmission supply place that quoted "starting at $35", and another place that does resurfacing for big rigs, etc., they quoted $50.

I went with the specialty shop ($50) due to hours/convenience, it only took 5 minutes while I waited. I had to replace the ring gear too $20 (replaced myself). The replacement ring gear was a lot wider/beefier than than original.

So I spent $70 and some of my own time/labor/legwork. Looking back, I should've just bought one from 440source for $150.

Thank y'all for all the help. My 440 appears to be a weird one since the harmonic balancer looks like the small internal balance unit (with no markings for external balance) and the previous owner claims it is internally balanced AND drilled for a pilot bearing. I haven't measured the hole in the end of the crank yet, in any event, but I think I may be able to get away with a neutral flywheel. Definitely good tip on the 440source flywheel.
