It has come to my attention that . . .

I had to go in for a piss test for the new gig this morning, which required heading off
to the "big city" (Knoxville). they kind of have different mask/distancing requirements
over there from what we do out here - plus of course what the testing lab wanted.
This particular facility is affiliated with the largest medical corporation in that part of
the state. Typically very nice places, well kept and run.

I walked in and headed to the front desk and noticed the sign. I felt the looks of others
in the room, too - but they weren't so much confrontational or hostile as they were, well,
jealous - sort of a "hey, how come HE doesn't have to wear a mask?"
They all looked rather downtrodden and resigned to their masked fates.
Kinda sad, really.
Lady behind the counter robotically hands me a mask out of a box....

I head in the back to do my thing and the nurse looks at me, still not wearing the thing, just
holding it in my hand and leans over and whispers "is it ok if I take MY mask off?"
Heck yeah lady, have at it, fine by me....
She asks how come I'm not wearing one like everybody else.
I tell her what county I'm from and how we don't worry about such - and have an empty hospital
from the lack of need (so does the one next to us, for that matter).

She later announces my clean test (she says VERY clean, like something's wrong with that).
I try to hand her the unused mask, which she refuses since I've touched it....
Such a waste....in many ways.

I went to the store the other day to pick up a script. I was asked to wear a mask. I told them I am social distancing and didn't need one.
Got to the pharmacy and went to the window. I was asked to wear a mask. I said there is a plastic barrier between us.
It came time to pay and they asked me to use my debit card. I asked if the terminal had been cleaned. They said no so I asked what good is a mask?
They didn't know whether to crap or go blind.
Then I offered to pay with cash but they didn't know where that cash had been.
They said use the terminal. I said okay but will I need protection from the package they were about to hand me?
They kinda gave me a look and I asked if you are going to mandate "protection" do it right or don't do it at all.
We joked and cut up a bit and I got my stuff.
It helped I've been going there for ages.

Same at a McD's drive-thru here....they close the window between interactions (for Covid), they ask for card payment only, I give cash as it is still legal tender, and they hand your change on some weird spatula that has a spring loaded flap holding the paper notes.

And yet they wear the same frigging disposable plastic gloves for every customer. :cursin:

Just like Subway where they keep using the same disposable gloves for different customers....until someone insists that they put new ones on. That really pisses some of them off having to put new ones on. Like it comes out of their pay or something.
