Jag fan clutch and fixed fan

what temp gauge are you going by saying it never went above 205*??

yea..me too...mine have never gone above 195* when sitting in traffic....used to climb fast with OE radiator

I'm not running optimally. There's a slight vacuum leak due to the base carb gasket leaking. It idles a little high as a result. It's next week's project. I'm hoping when this is done, I'll be running cooler

Thanks for the lead on rads from Engineering Cooling Products. I'm about ready to order a rad for my '68 Plymouth Satellite that came with a 22" rad and small block auto trans since I'm swapping in a 451 that will require a 26" rad. I've narrowed it down to an Aluminum 2 row x 1" rows x 26". Need to make a decision on one of the following:

1) Engineered Cooling Products - Don't see the BB rad listed (will have to call) but lists their small block rad for $219. 2 row x 1" tubes, Aluminum

2) Griffin - spoken to many people who had great success with these. Looking at the Direct Fit P/N GRF-8-70038: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gri-8-70038/overview/year/1968/make/plymouth/model/satellite for $369, Aluminum, cross-flow, 2 row x 1.25" tubes

3) Summit Universal - P/N http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-380459/overview/make/plymouth - $330 - width shown is 29" instead of 26", 2 row x 1" tubes

4) Champion, Aluminum, 2 row x 0.75" tubes only cools up to 400hp, 3 row x .063" tubes cools up to 700hp - for $210. http://www.championradiators.com/plymouth-satellite-26-inch-core-big-block-radiator-1966-1974

I thought I was going to get a Champion, but I'd really like a 2 row rad. Leaning towards the Griffin or Engineered Cooling Products. Any glaring quality issues of one over the other?

Griffin.... always run a fan shroud and the spacing from the fan matters... I'm running a fixed fan because the viscous fan package at summit I have had on back order for almost a year hasn't come in.... I'm done with them any way and the right fan package is out of stock everywhere. But I have no over heat issues and will end up with a factory flex fan.

I'm running Engineered Cooling rads in all 3 Chargers here...no issues

I bought an engineered products radiator. It's a 2 row 1" 26" it went in perfect. I found it on ebay, their still there with high rating. I'm using a clutch fan from an 87 power ram 350. It's a 20", the shroud is from an 85 fifth ave.. I'm running a 451 with stealth heads etc.. I've never seen over 195 on the hottest days. The total fan shroud setup was 50 bucks. I did have to notch for the upper hose and I cut a clearance for the oil filter. It's a 72 satellite. Hope this helps.

Mine also has never went above 195* under "any" conditions with the O.E.M. stuff it came with,if you guys would quit trying to re engineer what worked you would be way ahead of the game.Cooling problems can go far beyond the radiator. If I can run a 500" motor with a factory 22" radiator, factory 2 pc metal fan shroud, factory clutch fan "AND" A/C so can you,do your homework and save yourself the aggravation !! :BangHead:

Maybe then this thread will end,it's been going on since last September !!!!

we ain't re-engineering anything dumb-***...maybe you should take time to read the thread before you open up yer mouth. The OE stuff was barely adequate for the time it was made....now with many miles and partially plugged radiators, the OE stuff is not gonna work like it did. Just because yer little 225 slant six never overheats, does not mean you need to belittle everyone's posts in here...

shut the hell up and feel free to join another forum.

Well then, you can kiss my dumb *** and drag it out for another nine months and 225 isn't even half of 500 !! :icon_fU:

Also, common sense got lost in the shuffle,if you go back and read (like you suggested) most post about cooling issues, some of you guys shouldn't even have a car.

cooling issue fixed. shroud and rad worked like a charm.

Just an FYI. the engineered cooling radiator uses a 1/8" brass fitting for the tranny cooler. make sure you order this before install as none of the big auto parts stores like pep boys, autozone, nationals, or advance carry the 3/8 barb to 1/8 npt fitting. Rockauto carried it.
