Jason's 68 coronet build

Been a while again. Weather here has been great the last couple of weeks and I have been driving the wheels off this thing...well at least the back wheels. Ha ha. Getting the carb dialed in pretty good. Changed the accelerator pump squirters, adjusted the pump cam, and changed the power valve. Much better now, no more off idle stumble. Waiting on my jet kit, need to fatten up the upper rpms. Turned it into the family fun car. Baby now has her own seat. Her level of entusiam was outstanding.

Gave the old girl a bath tonight. Gravel driveway is hell on keeping it shiny.

Picked up my tail panel letter at the show/swap meet in Dubuque a couple weeks ago.

Heading down to Cordova next Friday for the fun night. Got a grudge match with my buddy and his 69 Chevelle and another buddy with a 66 Lemans. Guys with the Lemans said he'll give me 5 seconds. I said no problem!

A bit late to the party. Looks great! Makes me want to start taring down my Coronet...lol!

I'm a Pontiac guy (sorry guys) that also owns a Coronet. Any info on the LeMans?

Not sure on all the specifics, big block, pushes 720hp. All motor runs alcohol. Turns mid 9s. My buddy and his father in law built the car. They also run a tempest, that turns 8s. Now they are building a pro mod firebird trying to break 200mph.

Well good news and bad news. First the good. The mighty chevelle was no match for the mopar. He ran a 14.8 to my 13.7. I was really happy with my numbers as it was a terrible night for racing. Temps in the mid 80s we'll after dark, with about 100% humidity.
Now the bad. I went last Friday again for fun night test and tune. Air temp about 60 low humidity, thought I'll turn some better numbers. No so. My supposed 3200 stall converter is stalling at about 2000 rpm. Think I got hosed on that deal. I'm coming in way before my power band. 8 inch street tires are hooking up no problem. Ran a 14 flat first time out. Next run I get to aggressive and red light. When I let off at the end, engine makes bad noises. I guess I pushed the 40 year old mystery motor to it's limit. Sounds like there is a screech owl living under my hood. Oil pressure is all over the place. My valley pan looks like this.

Top end appears ok. Other than a bunch of brass and metal shavings sitting in the lifter valley.

Well I guess I know what I will be doing this winter. I'm not terribly upset, I only paid 1700 for the motor. It came with about 2800 worth of extras.

Looks like your speed demon was trying to escape. Sorry for the motor. But great looking car. What's the color on the car and what paint supplier. It's awesome. My car is B5 blue. But the Matrix paint code is off I think.

Updates! My 40 year old mystery motor ate itself alive. Number 1 rod bearing was in the oil pan.

Number 6 wasn't far behind.

Drop it off this week and wait for the phone call to pick up my new engine. Be back in business for spring....with a few more ponies.

Another "good news bad news story", eh, Jason? Well, I'm sorry it happened so soon. But, I'm happy you're getting a known good engine and can relax now when driving.

Hello all! I think winter may be about over now. Of course we thought that a few weeks ago, and then it snowed 7 inches last Saturday. Trails are all closed, but had fun pulling the kids on the sled.

Sleds are all cleaned up and put to bed for the summer, so I guess it's car time!
I got the bottom end of the 512 back from the machine shop in Dec. It's just been sitting in a bag in the corner. Time to get started putting her back together .

Got it all assembled this week, and painted her up last night.

Hopefully get the accessories on this week, and start getting it installed. No big rush, weather is supposed to be cold and crappy here for the next 3 weeks.

Late to the parade, as usual. X’d fingers; engine specs?

77 440 block, bored .030 over. 512 stroker kit from 440 Source. Stealth heads, 10.5 to 1 compression . Upgraded to 10 degree locks and retainers . Mopar 509 cam. Weiand single plane intake, demon 750 carb. The cam, Intake, and carb are off my original 440, trying to save some money. In a year or two I plan on swaping the cam and upgrading to fuel injection.

‘Blasted kids’ lol, keep the carb! But I can understand (kinda) the EFI.

This summer l have to look for an intermediary sled. They kitty cat is getting to small, but not ready for a full size. Going to try to find an old enticer 250 or a citation 250, should be about right. We took them up to Wisconsin for the first time this season. They had a blast.
