I foolishly started this project about 3 weeks ago
Facts:
1. Found a 73 VW Superbeetle convertible for cheap
2. Pulled body off, began body work
3. Found major R-U-S-T in floor pans, ordered new pans from JBugs ($500)
4. Sandblasted the frame
5. Rebuilt engine with "Bud" 1864 CC?
6. found rust in convertible TOP frame, repairs have begun

Oh, those were the days! And I'm not going back either. They are cool cars though when done.

Your bug has the struts upfront? The "Beatle" had the tube front axle, that liked to rust out. Can you still get the heater boxes for them?

Good luck with that Bug resto 'Ski...you must be burning the candle at both ends doing that as well as your full time job. Can't wait to see this finished, and I'm sure you're the same.

Full plate there Ski,
I do like bugs, well use to anyway, it's been a while now...
Had a few over the decades, 68 Baja bug & Manx dune-buggy...

It's an interesting build/restoration...

Thank goodness they are somewhat simple cars at-least,
how's the parts pricing, are they still reasonable ?

That use to be a driving factor for their popularity
it was inexpensive to build...
They do have a devout/fanatical rabid following too,
much like Mopar & Pontiacs...LOL

Some bring really good money at auction now too, $20k+
I seen a few Safari or Surfer vans/21 window, or camper vans
sell for upwards of $100k+

I had a 79 Superbeetle FI Turquoise/Teal Metallic/w-black color,
bought for my girlfriend at the time, like $4k to get her out of a POS
74 Honda Civic...

Good luck on the build, hope it goes well/smooth...
I'll check out the thread from time to time,
I'm not sure I'll be of much help though, it's been a long time...
