K-frame repair

I built these replacement mounts for my k frame now my only concern is will it be strong enough just butted up at the joint or should I open the k frame up at the front and extend it in there and weld it in that way has anyone repaired this before ?

In my opinion, the factory egineered things to be just strong enough with a little added strength for security. I over build when modifying anything because I dont know how much stress it can actually take. I would not let the weld joints carry the weight if were me. Go in a little deeper.

Ya that’s what I was thinking my welder buddy said it should be fine but in my mind it needs to be extended into the frame

If your gut is saying something then do it or you will always think about it. I also over engineer pretty much everything but seldom has this methodology ever failed me.
