kickdown linkage question

Will the one piece kickdown linkage from a 383 fit a 440. I know that the 383 is a b block and 440 is an RB. I have an original carter carb with the 1/2" gasket. I am just wondering if that would make a B block linkage too short to use on my 440.

A 440 is about 3/8" taller so the vertical piece would likely need to be extended

Cannot speak to the 71 linkage. The older linkage has enough "adjustability" between both the vertical and horizontal rods to work between the B and RB.

The 71 B Body uses the 1 pc rod. You will have to modify or lengthen. It helps to have the correct throttle bracket also.

He says it is a 1 piece kick down rod. The info I can find shows a 2 piece rod assembly for a 71.
Is the 1 piece rod the original 71 part or from some other year ?

The bracket on the intake is a little different. Also the lower rod. This is on a 71 Charger with 440. It’s a 383/400 bracket with a 440 rod. The rod will have 758 on it A 440 bracket has 2 straight legs. The 383/400 bracket has the front leg curling back a little. I think I have 1 more set up. Kim

This is what I have, so far. The rod was way too short, which wouldn't allow me to get anywhere close to proper adjustment. Don't mind the old out of place springs.

As a test you can try a 1/4" stubby little carriage bolt 3/16" from the throttle shaft.
Where the blue dot is below. See if you have full throttle plate opening or if the kickdown lever hits full travel first.
As you know they need to hit close together at full throttle.
That should improve your shift points and you can still keep looking for linkage that fits better.

His bottom rod is way to short. What length is the rod and how long is the lever on the tranny? 2 inches or 3 inches? Kim

Also the picture shows the wrong kickdown spring attached to the wrong part of the linkage . it should be always holding the rod full forward in order to properly control the line pressure.
