Hi guys,
Just curious if anyone has fitted up a set of the late model Challenger brakes to their old B body?

I see that I can buy an used set for a reasonable price - but don't know if they'll even fit.

Thoughts?

Nope, not without some fab. At the very least you would need custom caliper brackets and somehow have to find a way to adapt those rotors to your hubs.

Once that happens, you’d then need some big wheels (18”-20” looks like) to fit around those babies.

Thanks for your reply.

I see that the bolt pattern on a new Dodge Charger / Challenger is 5 x 4.5 which is the same as our old Mopars - so I'm assuming that they might just slip over the hub. Fabricating a bracket to hold the caliper shouldn't be too difficult.

As for wheels, I'm moving to 19's and 20's soon.

Don’t assume they’ll fit over the hub, they need to be within a few thousandths of clearance diameter wise as well as depth. Agreed, as long as you have decent skills, brackets won’t be too hard once you have the rotors mounted and you can take measurements.

If you want big brakes on the cheap, see Ivan's videos below - He seems to have it all figured out. I guess you have to contact him on Facebook if you want to buy his adapters.

They'll fit if you know what you are doing. Of course, if you knew how to do it I suppose you wouldn't be asking the question. I have Porsche twin turbo brakes on the front of my '65 Coronet and I have Viper brakes on the front of my Duster.

Not true. The new bolt pattern is metric and not exactly a 4 1/2" bolt circle. The patterns are different enough to put a strain on the lug bolts because they are not perfectly centered in the lug holes of the wheels.

I think that is correct. If I was doing it I'd slot the holes in the rotor slightly to allow them to sit properly on the hubs. The other way to do it is to build custom hubs with late model bolt pattern and then use late model wheels. I'm not sure which is easier since you would most likely want to have the same bolt pattern front and rear. Of course, if the wheels aren't the same front to rear then you could use late model up front and old pattern in the rear. Retrofitting modern stuff to older cars requires making a bunch of decisions like that.........

The biggest problem with that swap is the ear mount calipers. Ear mount calipers are a bit of a pain to swap onto disc brake knuckles. It would most likely be easier to put them on drum brake knuckles. I used to make a kit to bolt Viper calipers on to the late model A body drum knuckle. It wasn't a very complex adapter and I'm sure something similar would work with those Charge calipers.

Ahhh...The Red Brick!
A friend of mine owns the car now. He lives near Sacramento, CA.

Regarding drum knuckles...I have a pair but do not know if they are the right ones. What is the height of the knuckle and the inner wheel bearing size of the proper knuckle? I have some here but I don't know if they are for an A body or a B.
I guess the upper ball joint hole would tell the story, right?

Wouldn't you know it - I tossed my old drum spindles. I'd be interested if you have a set for a B body!

Interesting. I'd be interested in a kit if you still make them.

4 1/2" BC is 114.3mm and unless my thinking is screwed, the metric wheels are 114.3??
