Let's talk about the best Appetizers

I'm probably cruising for some red Xs on this one, apologies in advance if I turn anyone off - oysters on the half shell. Love 'em or hate 'em, I've never seen anyone fall in the middle on these. Wife hates them, her younger sister and my daughter will eat all I'm willing to pay for.
Totally agree.....just make sure they are fresh. I got violently ill after eating bad oysters once.....couldn't walk for 2 days.

A squeeze of lemon juice or malt vinegar is all they need.

Fries cooked in duck fat.

Stuck a dozen spicy pork meatballs in the oven and ate 3....for lunch. Yeah, I'm on a diet lol
Meatballs, pork or beef, or combo, or Italian sausage rolled up
or Sweedish meatballs make good appetizers too
do a gravey of some sort, get some toothpicks & you're set

Diet what's that ?

Cajun style sweet potato fries is what I like. Time to hit the Cajun restaurant that's just down the road.....
I like yams or sweet potato fries too...

good ol' beer battered onion rings deep fried are great too

don't worry it's good for ya', it's a veggie/rabbit food:poke:

Come to think about it, these are Italian pork meatballs. Got salmon meatballs from HEB not too long ago and they were good but didn't have any fresh last time in there and the guy behind the counter didn't speak English much at all and didn't understand what I was asking for. When I came back by he handed me a salmon salad.....uh, no. I'm trying to lose 15 lbs. Lost 40 and put 5 back on and been stuck at this weight for too long.

I do a chicken fried potatoes too, a lil' bit of olive oil
to coat them & some seasonaings
then throw them in a baggie with/in a dry flour batter
a lil' bit of (like a teaspon) baking powder & corn starch
for good measures, like 400* for 25-35 min. depending on how crispy
or what elevation you're at, up here we have to cook them a tad longer

I put them on a cookies sheet or better on an elevated mesh rack
full circulation (works great for Oven Fried (?baked) chicken
with a cookie pan below them (copper coat nonstick stuff)

I eat like crap (like fried foods) a 1 day a week maybe
I don't drink (booze /beer) hardly ever, not even beers, it's extremely rare now
It's surprising how much you don't put on "not drinking" booze/beer,
pure wasted calories, lil' to no food values
I do relatively well the other 6 days, try not to eat fried stuff
do bean & soups, lots of chicken, some fish/seafood maybe a day a week
trying to do good meals with a veggie/fruit, a starch & a protein every meal

I do love pastas & gravy, usually red gravy, beef &/or pork, sometimes sausage
lots of veggies 'primavera' style, it's good
with some diced tomatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives too
& it's a lil' better for ya'

I cook for 2 normally & trying to keep my dad alive for another 10 years
it doesn't hurt me any either, to eat healthily...

I eat fried food maybe once a month but eat too much mexican food....but not nearly like I used to. One of my problems is I snack too much while watching TV at night.

I ate 60 of them in a sitting many years ago, and then had 18 wings at Hooters for dessert. Flew back to Chicago, and had the same result you described when I got home. Only day of work I missed in 20 years with the company. Much debate over whether it was the oysters or the wings that did me in. Moot point, I wouldn't repeat the process with either. Half dozen of either is fine at this point.

Well the fight is on, gonna dig into some of these.

My dad is like that
he has icecream cookies or popcorn every night
no matter what I say he's stubborn...
& he loses weight, he's skin & bones (4 (?) years after his quad bypass)
really IMO, it's the loss of muscle mass
from sitting way too much

Now
he has to go in for corraded artery (stint or angioplasty ?) surgery
next month or so
from his bad habits for 60+
years of boozen'
& eating **** food constantly
before he started living with me

he's my cautionary tale
I don't want to end up like him

Onion rings are so easy, to make the batter simply mix beer and flour. That's it. The carbonation in the beer puffs up the batter in the fryer, crispy and delicious.

Rumaki (bacon wrapped chicken livers) done right is hard to beat. Another one is Wasabi shrimp... light weight tastes are not suitable...

Chuck (snook)

Chicken livers? Damn I thought that was catfish bait you could only get at the grocery store. I'll have to try it.

THIS THREAD IS PURE EVIL. Now I have to go out. Beer and all the above.
