Hello all. Long time lurker here, first time poster.

I've been a BBody fan since I was a kid, and am finally in the position to buy one (I'm 35). I've been looking for a decent 70 RR for quite a while, that would be a reasonably accomplishable project.

I'm supposed to go travel to see one listed in Ann Arbor, MI tomorrow. I plan to get it inspected by a restoration shop that I've been in contact with. The undercarriage is rustproofed/sprayed and I don't trust myself to gauge the condition of the unibody.

A few questions for you guy that're much more knowledgeable than me:

What are some small details I should be looking for that affect these cars? (I'm fairly mechanically inclined and will bring a magnet etc, so I have that part covered)

Do you guys think this is a fair price for this car? Pricing seems ALL OVER THE PLACE lately. I plan on doing a restomod on the vehicle, so some things don't matter to me.

The guy is very firm on the price. He absolutely will not accept lower than listing.

Any advice is appreciated, and if the purchase goes through, I will make sure to post progress here. Thanks for your time!

Price seems realistic. Very desirable body.
Fender tag?
Being in MI I would be scared about the underside.. have it looked at.

Welcome. I agree with price inconsistencies. Some cars are over priced and that makes the market confusion.
My opinion is any B Body mopar under 40 grand is far from perfect. The asking price here seems reasonable, but keep your expectations in check.

love that color......no underside or trunk pics, blacked out hood compartment, MAJOR red flags.......beware, these often turn into a big time can of worms

Sure seems like a nice price for one of those. No photos of the body, undercarriage, and not much description of the ‘body’? You’ll want to get a good look at the underside, frame, floor and trunk pans, around the lip of the fenders/quarters, under the doors. Best to get it on a lift if possible. Look up under the rear glass, inside the trunk. Sight along the lines of the body in good light front and rear looking closely at the perfection, or lack thereof, body ripples, indentations, etc. Guys that are real good with bondo can hide a bunch of what ya don’t want to have. If you have a buddy who knows body work, better. If it’s decent seems like a nice price.

With the undercoating I'd want to see under the carpet(s) of the typical problem spots too, i.e. floor panels, trunk, etc.

Bring one of those advertising refrigerator magnets. And check the lower quarters, rockers and lower fenders.

9 out of 10 need this

Thanks all for chiming in.

Undercoating is also a big time concern for me. I have a lift at a (pre-72) restoration specialist reserved for checking the undercarriage because I wouldn't want that to be covering flaws. Checking under the carpets is a good idea, thanks for that.

I'm awaiting a pic of the Fender Tag, but it's a 3 on the tree car 383 car so I'd assume everything is fairly proper for it, and not very rare. I plan on restomodding the interior to a degree also.

The owner is not a car guy, and inherited it from his brother, supposedly. So getting some info has been a pain, and considering it's on Craigslist, he's had alot of interest. I'm not trying to tirekick the guy, but I also want a fair 3rd party assessment.

I never heard of a 3-speed column-shifted '70 RoadRunner. I know that Plymouth (and Dodge ) cheaped out in 1970 by offering the 3-speed manual transmission as standard equipment instead of the previously offered 4-speed, but always thought it had a floor mounted shifter.

Welcome to FBBO

good luck

Hmm, if that RR was anything in the neighborhood of cherry, I think it would have been a steal at the price.
I never got to see it before it got deleted.
I did want to see it because that’s my favorite year RR
I was just letting the OP know it was gone.

My favorite year too.

Well, the guy apparently sold it, even after offering me first shot at it. I've been in contact with him since the day it was posted.

To say im disappointed would be an understatement. I put a lot of effort into trying to get this car.

Not too happy about it, honestly. But still in the market, I suppose.

It was priced right. Keep looking and saving your money.
