Hi,

Looking for some opinions on what to do about my transmission in my 69 charger.
I have a passion performance A-855 5-speed transmission that i received sometime around 2017. It has been bolted up but never used. I am thinking about going a different direction with the transmission. I have a 900HP genII hemi and with these transmissions being out of production I am concerned about possibly breaking it and being stuck with a paper weight. Does anyone know if there is a market for these now that they are no longer available?

Thinking of going to a tremic TKX.

Thanks in advance

A TKX won't hold up either. They call it a TKX because they are slightly more shapely than the TKO 600 they replaced. The internals aren't much different.
The Tremec 6060 6 speed may be more durable.
Now, about the A 855....Maybe you'd find a buyer for it and get a good price.

you are correct however, the TKX can be upgraded to hold more power, plus if i break it I can get it fixed or get another. I feel like i'd be sh!t out of luck with the A-855 if something happened to it.

The 6060 is the better transmission, but the modifications needed to make it fit....... i dont want to cut up the car to that degree.

Oh the great demise of the 855. Years ago when very few people were putting T-56,s in their cars I got absolutely hammered for cutting a hole in my 70RT to fit the close ratio T-56 Magnum in my car. Best damn decision Ive ever made. Your car but you asked. I’d get rid of that POS 855 and I wouldn’t even think twice about dropping a T-56 in it. I don’t know your torque but whatever it is I’d build the T-56 to match it. I think the torque on these were 700 continuous ft/lbs. I know several people running them without the upgrade with your horsepower level and they haven’t done a thing to them but run a good clutch and had zero problems but that’s your call.

I appreciate the response. At this point I have no hesitation cutting holes in the car, i've been eyeballing the tranny tunnel that US cartool sells.

bolted up but never used
If never used there is no way to determine if it is stricken with the pop out of gear issue, typically 4th, and/or the whining/grinding noise when in the same gear.

If it has been driven and used without issue it would be an easier sale, however the downside is the same, no service/parts support.

Some report no issues, best bet, get some documented/video miles on it.

How to price it or what buyers would pay might be challenging.

They really did bad to good Mopar people.
I wish you the best.

That would be the quickest way to make that set up work. At the time I did mine nothing like that was offered. Took us some time to fab the tunnel but I also wanted to throw half a console in it so I needed the tunnel to be small as possible for the console to somewhat fit. Just remember before you install the transmission to get your bellhousing dialed in and your free play on your clutch good. I don’t have the hp you have so im running a McLeod Dual RST with a hydraulic clutch.
