Looking for simple upgrades on a 318. Bolt -ons if you will

The best 318 I ever had used 273 heads. I'm not sure how 'available' they are now. But they come with forged adjustable rockers if they are from '64-'67.

Of course that head has bigger valves and a great port job.

SO hardly bolt on..:)

Ok. so I'm looking at rebuilding my 904 transmission because the 3rd gear clutch went on me. I have an engine and transmission coming to me in trade and I'm planning to build that up. I'm going to do a stroker (it's also a 318). I want to keep my original engine and set it aside (likely rebuild and detail it). I plan on adding a shift kit to the replacement trans to mate up with the stroked motor but I'm wondering if I should do that with the original trans too. I'm not sure how long it will be before I finish the stroker motor, I have to raise the funds. I've received a rocker arm set from a friend who has built up his 318 but went a different direction. He also has a Holley 650 Double Pumper for me at a discounted price. Things are coming together slowly. The motor I'm getting comes with a 360 - police 4bbl intake, a new distributor (brand unknown) and an ignition system (also unknown). The valve covers are missing but I'm sure I can find some. What I need to decide is:

- what stroker kit?
- What Cam? (stock 14 road wheels with Highway gears)
-Which Headers? (I see a lot of good reviews of Hedman, I will make a custom dual exhaust with a experienced friend)

Again, not looking to drag race, I just want to be able to have some fun. Trying to keep it reasonable on gas consumption, but this needs to be viable as a daily driver. I appreciate all the suggestions so far !
- Air Filter and Assembly? (I'm looking at K&N, I have a functional AirGrabber door, but not a complete system...yet)

Call Mancini Racing, they have some good reasonably priced 318 stroker kits...

Proper style Camshaft & Well done reworked/ported cylinder heads are a must, even for a daily driver, if you want to get the best bang for your buck...

IMHFO; TTI, Dougs, Schumacher Creative Services all make good "quality" SB Mopar headers, a little more money but well worth the price & fit too...

Performance 101; what goes in must come out, free flowing gauze type filter, good 4bbl intake, good carb {Holley/Quickfuel}, appropriate porting & necessary head/valve work {a must}, a camshaft & valve-train components suited for your intended purpose {a must}, fitted/spec-ed for the gears, converter & trans you will be actually using etc. {a must}, free flowing properly sized exhaust system & quality headers {highly suggested}, good hotter ignition system, with a hotter coil & ultra-low ohm resistance plug wires {a must}... the ability to tune such a beast, I'd highly suggest buying some books on the subject...

Thanks Bud. I'm working with a local drag racer from my congregation who knows mopar to assist me in the rebuild of my Transmission and he and I will also build a custom Dual exhaust for the car. I just want the car to have a bit more pep. I have thought about a cam shaft on the built engine. That being said, this is a low buck build. The only $ I have is from selling my collections of things I've saved over the years. Comic books, hockey cards, hotwheels, car models (built and unbuilt), pepsi collection, slot cars and the odd birthday gift I receive of cash. My income from my job goes to pay for food and shelter etc for my growing family. Regular car maintenance is one thing, but upgrades are done by the grace of my Heavenly Father.

I will look into mancini's stroker kits. I've already started reading about porting myself.

I thought you were on a budget? The strokers are going to cost, maybe time to switch to a 360 setup, or 408.

Myself if on a budget (and history of doing) would just change the intake and carb and improve the ignition by either changing from points or converting to HEI conversion. I would keep the exhaust as is and do repairs as needed. If the heads came off I would port match them to the gaskets.

Ok AMX... Maybe you didn't read everything in the thread. I have a motor and transmission coming to me in a trade that is costing me some of my time. I am working with a friend to rebuild the transmission to save costs and we will be bending a dual exhaust system again to save costs. The engine I am acquiring has a 360 intake, new Distributor and electronic ignition system. I have a brand new 4bbl 650 holley double pumper coming to me at a greatly reduced cost. I'm going to rebuild the motor coming to me because I have no idea how it's been treated. I figure that if I'm going to have it all apart anyway, I might as well build it up now rather than take the engine out of the car again. This way I can drive the car while I build the motor.

Lose that boat anchor AC unit and you will gain about 20HP plus getting some weight off a already heavy car.I just did the GM hei module and coil conversion and it works and runs very good. Also no need for the over priced and over hyped TTI,Dougs or Shumacher headers. The other brands fit and don't break the bank.

I just picked up my first B-Body and it has a 318 2bbl. I'm looking for simple bolt-ons. I need to keep it low cost to keep the boss happy. Any suggestions? What options do I have for Carburetors? I'm just looking for a bit more power and keep the relatively good fuel mileage if at all possible. What other things can you suggest? The car is a 1971 Satellite and the previous owner had begun cloning it into a Road Runner, but did not go past cosmetics.

Edelbrock intake and carburetor and rv cam a rebuild kit... bearings rings gaskets and valve job And fresh paint.

My Dynomax Thrush Glass Pack Mufflers and Flowmaster Inc. 2.50 in has arrived. These will be attached to the stock Manifolds for the moment until I Get my Stroker built Hopefully later this summer. Next up will be the 4 BBL 360 Intake and Holley 650 4 BBL. Still trying to decide which stroker kit to use, and what bump stick I will require. Slowly but Surely...

My buddies 68 Dart has a 318 and 9.5 to 1 compression, swirl port heads, 509 cam, m1 intake, 3000 stall, 430 gears. Made one pass here at Little River and ran 8.50 1/8, street tires and mufflers.

Update !

Ok. I have installed dual exhaust, installed a K&N filter. Actually felt an increase in power. I just won a Holley 650 double pumper in a raffle. I have to decide on an intake. Any suggestions? A friend has donated a billet aluminum rocker arm set up and a 727 transmisson. I have purchased a skip white all in one. Distributor, HEI igniton and coil. I'm pretty much all in on the 318 Stroker at this point. Thinking of 392C.I. How do i choose a cam shaft. Thank you for all the help!
