Hi I was wondering if anyone could help.I bought a 70 mopar that has a title but the vin tag and fender tag were both lost,is there a way to get a new vin tag.The guy i bought the car from said he had to get the police to check all the other # on the car to get the title. Thanks in advance

You are probably going to have to have a State-issued VIN assigned to the car. Without the VIN tag and the build sheet, you are pretty much relegated to this solution. Do you still have the original engine and/or transmission? They have the last eight numbers of the VIN stamped on them. A state-issued VIN will NOT be the original VIN that is "re-issued" to the car by the State, but something like "OK-012345-15" which as an example would read "Oklahoma, the 12,345th VIN issued, 2015".

DO NOT simply "get" another VIN tag and fender tag off another car and try to register/title your car with that!!! Do it right. So you don't have the "factory numbers", but the car will be legal with a state-assigned VIN.

Ok, so... you gave money to somebody & in return you got a title for a 70 Mopar AND a vehicle. What, if any, number on the vehicle corresponds to the title ? How do you know THAT title is for THAT car ? What exactly did the police do ? As the prior post says, usually the state issues a NEW State-VIN. Did you get the VIN and title checked ?

The numbers on the cowl match the title. The cops checked the # to make sure they matched.

Something ain't soundin' right, here. First you said, they checked all the numbers... did YOU check the numbers ? Where on the cowl ? What about the places where the numbers should be ? How do you know "the cops checked the numbers " ? The seller told you ?
