I just felt compelled to post about my 70 V code Roadrunner. First, I want to thank you all for the help I get on this forum. I have had my car for about 3 1/2 years now. I drove from south Louisiana to St. Charles MO. with my best friend who is a Mopar guy too, and we did a "turn and burn" to make it there and back in a weekend. We go back to the late 70s, and I hooked him up with his 70 383 4 speed N96 Roadrunner back in 79-80? He did some shade tree mechanic upgrades to it and was running mid 13s on street tires. I had an original 71 Charger R/T at the time with a 440 4bbl and SlapStick (GREAT shifter). Unfortunately it had an open 8 3/4 diff, so traction was limited.
My love for Mopars goes back to 1969 when I was 7 years old and my dad bought a B5 blue basic 383 auto Roadrunner. He was a police officer and one night with me and my mom in the car, he pulled over a guy who blazed by us on the interstate. The Roadrunner caught up to the speeder in about a half a mile. I was hooked!
Anyway, my 70 Roadrunner has a 71 440 in it with an Edelbrock aluminum 6 bbl intake, headers, 509 Purple Stripe cam, and some valve train goodies. I have addressed a number of various issues with the car, but I have been able to show it (NOT a trailer queen) won a number of "Top ##" awards, drive it to almost every event I attend with it (trailered it a few times) and have been to two annual track days where my car club rents a local Drag Strip for 4 hours. We just had the 2nd of those 2 track day events, and I was able to cut 6/10ths of a second off last year's time and went from 102 mph last year up to 105 mph this year and cut my time from 13.9s to 13.35s. The FBO ignition system with the built in rev limiter gave me the confidence to power shift without lifting for the first time, and the 9" Year One aluminum Rally wheels allowed me to run 315/35/17 Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials vs the stock steel Rallys with BF Goodrich 275s that I kept smoking through first gear last year.
I appreciate the friendship and fun times we have with our cars, Crusin the Coast has been a must attend for the whole week event that I have enjoyed more now that I have my Roadrunner, it's like stepping into a time machine and makes me feel like I'm back in High School, crusing the lakefront and the street race scene again.
