Lowering the front end

I have a 1968 Coronet, and I want to lower the front end 1-2 inches. What is the best way to do this? If I crank down the torsion bars, will that hurt anything? Will the alignment be thrown off, and if it is, would it be fixable? Or is there a better way, I can't seem to find drop spindles or anything of that nature.

Yes, you can lower the front with the bars. BUT...by doing that you are effectively reducing the spring weight making it easier to bottom out. And yes, it will change the alignment if it was already set. There are offset upper control arm bushings available that you might need in order to correct the alignment if it couldn't just be adjusted.

It seems like I've heard of some dropped spindles for Mopars, but not being in to that sort of thing, I don't know who has them.

We did this all the time back in the day. If you go too low it will bottom out. We would cut the snubbers on race cars to give them more travel. You can do that on a street car if you're careful where you drive and cam aim for the smooth portion of the roadway.

[/IMG] Rest assured that you MUST go immediately for an alignment, and I've never seen or heard of one that wasn't easily corrected through normal procedures. The car shown in the pics was cranked up for the "gasser" look that was popular on street cars at that time. Race cars went the other way and lowered them. The original SS cars in 1962-63 cranked them up in an effort to get weight transfer, but with the front end that high it didn't move much and it really was ineffective.
 
I know fatman makes drop spinals for FMJ I don't know about B.
 
Well I don't have to worry about big bumps around here, and if the alignment is easily fixable that's what I'll do (it needs done anyway lol).

How do you lower a b-body... for instance my 67 belvedere II, its definatly set to have the gasser look, I do want to drop it to have a more subtle look.

right now im at this:
as you can see the ft fender is about 3 inches above the top of the tire.

What I want:
either just at or just past the the top of the tire tread with the fender.

You have to be careful not to take all the preload out, but you do it by backing off the torsion bar adjuster bolts which are located in the underside "middle" of the LCA. It's a 3/4" headed bolt. Just back them off, bounce the nose, and check your height. You'll probably have to do it several times to get it "right"
 
Theres a company called Eaton Detroit who make springs for pretty much any car you can imagine. And I was looking up lowering springs for my then daily driver and the pricing wasn't too bad like $100 for a pair of coil springs and $150 for a pair of leafs.

HHHMMMHHHMMM!!!!! MR MJCADY3 !! Not to be rude but be sure that the information you are giving is for the correct application. The 67 b body does NOT have coil springs. They have torsion bars for the front and leaf for the rear.
