I see plenty of mailboxes enclosed in brick in most subdivisions, so I'd have no problem making a car-proof (or nearly so) mailbox and mount. It's not my fault if someone hits a mailbox with a car, that is THEIR problem. As long as my mailbox is set back like all the others, no sweat. Too many inattentive drivers these days, anyway!

Long story short we had an old lady pull into our driveway real fast to turn around. She saw us driving down the driveway (1/2 mile long) backed out fast (gravel burn out marks) somehow she went 3 feet off the driveway into the steep ditch and hit our mail box. The mail box landed on the other side of the 2 lane road she wanted to pay for our damage but we declined as her honda took the blunt of the damage. We now know why there were 2 extra mail boxes in the garage when we moved in. It's been hit probably half a dozen times since we moved in last June.

My dad and I are talking about building something out of steel and cement it into the ground but this thread has given me some ideas.

My grandparents used to have trouble with theirs as well living far in the country there mail box was at the nearest intersection 2 miles away. Kids would use it for target practice, run it over and beat it to death. They wound up filling a 55 gallon drum and screwed a mail box on top. Lasted for awhile before one day the mail box was missing and the drum was off in the ditch. They gave up after 20 years and share with a church trouble free.

Up here there's a guy that has a kayak stuck in the ground about 1/3rd of the way with a box shaped and painted like a fish setting on the hole. It's brite yellow. There's a bunch of chainsaw carved bears and moose ones.

Been awhile since having a nice mail box. The one now is just plain but it will pivot when someone tries to play base ball with it. I will still get dented but at least with it pivoting, it doesn't get smashed to hell anymore.

Unfortunately, we won't have out own individual mailbox; instead, the new neighborhood has a larger version of this....

I think I will work on something unique this summer for the mailbox. Got to get it wife approved though....

I saw one the other day that was a hood scoop,
like the old 70's Pro Stock style mounted on a driveshaft as the base

wish I had my camera with me, it was way upcountry...
