Four speed swap in a 66 Coronet. after assembly the clutch pedal will not return into its upright position. The return spring does not seem strong enough to achieve this. What am I missing?

Is the over center spring installed along with the return spring on the linkage? Is it a finger clutch or a diaphragm clutch?

If a person leaves the over Center spring in place and uses a diaphragm clutch this can happen. You must remove the over Center spring to use a diaphragm clutch. This is probably where roadhog was heading….

If you have quite a bit of free play, try removing some of it and see if that helps.
