Wow! Thats why I assemble my own engines. Check it for groves and wallowed out opening where the keyway is. If it looks good flip the washer and you should be good to go.
It mangled a tiny bit of the woodruff key so I need a new one. The bad news is I leave to visit my mom in Fla for 10 days tomorrow so I just left the front of my motor in pieces scattered around my garage. I'll deal with it when I get back:).
 
They put the washer on upside down!! I'm amazed it ran as long as it did.

Check the top sprocket for wear also. It has been loose along with the eccentric also.

Glad you caught it before any carnage took place! Send your builder the picture.

If only that engine builder had access to documentation to guide him when assembling the engine....

check to make sure cam did not walk back and get damaged by a lifter riding wrong
