MEEP! MEEP! Restomod

I got the the latch mounted and wired. I still need to make a mount for the release cable and with the trunk seal being new, the trunk sits a bit proud of the quarters but I’ll live with it this way for a while. I crawled underneath and found a “3.23” tag on the axle and confirmed that is the ratio. 3.55’s should improve the acceleration a bit and still maintain reasonable cruising RPM with a 0.67 overdrive in the transmission. In a fantasy world, a supercharger would fix my acceleration cravings but that will be down the road a ways.

Disgustingly dusty but got the wing painted and mounted. New 255/40/17 tires for the front on 17x9 rims that the P.O. ordered for the back but had the wrong backspacing are going on this week after I swap the front brakes. I have a Wilwood 12.19” 4 piston setup that’s on a car without an engine right now. The front tires currently are 225/50/17 on 17x7 and are old enough that they have some dry cracking.

Wilwood 12.19” 4 piston brakes on drum spindles with SS braided lines. The hydroboost system should be here in a week or two. I had to reseal the trans pan while I had it jacked up. Hopefully I’ll get the brakes bled and the transmission refilled tomorrow night.

75 miles round trip and there are several not insignificant bugs to work out. The rear tires rub occasionally, the brakes still need work, like the PO didn’t get the master cylinder bench bled completely and the most significant issue seems to be dropping throttle position? I’m not sure on that last one but while driving the accelerator pedal would go dead and the engine went to idle but would return to normal operation if the car was shut off and restarted immediately. I’ll probably call Bouchillon this week as everything for the swap was purchased through them.

The car still had the original 318 car springs that were fairly tired once I got them unbolted. I replaced them with MP XHD springs, new bushings and some factory shackles off of a big block car that appeared to be about 3/4” longer than the ones on the car. A short test drive left me with almost a 1 1/2” ride height increase. I may need to massage the inner lip of the fender but the springs needed replaced regardless of if they were going to solve the rubbing issue.

I spoke with Bouchillon about the throttle issue and I understand that troubleshooting is not something they provide and would also be difficult over the phone, however he was stuck on the fact that the transmission shouldn’t even work with their setup. I then asked if that would be related to the throttle issue and he said unlikely. He then insisted that the control system and accompanying items must not have been purchased through them, which I have all paid receipts for and verified that the computer etc all had Bouchillon Performance decals on them. Basically, I was left with the advice to get a scan tool, so that’s my next move. Research is kind of hard to find on a swap issue because so many problems posted never share the solution when it’s solved. So far I have a TPS relearn and possibly a brake pedal switch as things to look into.

Drove it 60 miles last night and it never missed a beat. I am going to order a code reader this week. Only 3 more Roadrunner badges to install.
