The lifter bosses are taller to support the lifter better. If you use a roller lifter make sure the tie bar doesn't contact the block when the lifter is on base circle at the bottom of cam lift. Most current roller tappets clear. If using at flat tappet cam you won't have an issue.

The bosses were machined for tie bar clearance. (for a smaller base circle).

Whatever cam and lifter you want to use, just make sure it doesn't uncover the oil gallery at any point. (from base circle to max lift).

If so, they will need to be bushed.
