Might need more than a bore hone

Looks like you’ll have quite a bit of time trying to save that $3-500 block(depending on where you live).

That’s way worse looking at this stage of the game than anything I’ve used.

If you’re looking for a challenge(just getting apart)....... I’d say you found one.

At the point you’re at now...... I’d get out the shop vac for the loose stuff and then start applying chemicals.

It appears to have been subjected to a lot of moisture. In my opinion cracks from freezing is going to be your first concern. Clean up around the frost plugs and look for "spider" cracks. I had a 413 that looked real good inside and out. Sent it to be cooked out for machine work and the machine shop spotted these cracks before he dropped it in the tank. DOA

I had a block that did not look that bad, and was on the edge of salvaging due to cylinder wall pitting. Check the block and rear cap where the seal goes. If that does not clean up reasonably well by hand, you might have sealing problems.

Damm that's Nasty, I'd hate to see what water jackets look like? Seen many really yucky blocks overheat because of hidden junk, owners were trying everything, Bolt hole for heads popped out as well from rust forming on inside. Antifreeze left in blocks for long time really chews up insides. PM me If you want a nice prestine 400 block 71 "230" block or a 600hp+ 451 in Montreal

Only update I can give is I've taken all the main caps off and removed one not broken piston I can't get access to the front 2 rod caps to undo them so I think it's just beat out the ones I can and try to force it over. The only bad bores are the 3 dead ones it looks so if it's real bad I may get away with a couple sleeves.

Why bother??? Clean 440 cores aren't that hard to find.....

What do you do when the good cores are all used up and you scrapped the ones that need some work. If you wanna sell me a good block for $500 Canadian I'll take it.
