Wow, I thought (obviously incorrectly) that Mike Rowe is a well known household entity in this country, but from the looks of this thread so far, maybe not?
His "Dirty Jobs" and "Somebody's Gotta Do It" tv shows on cable have run for decades now, after all - but beyond that is his charitable foundation,
https://www.mikeroweworks.org/ , that does awesome things for young folks while trying to help fill the skills gap in this country.
Our public education system has chanted the same old mantra at high schoolers approaching graduation for decades now - kids being told a college education is the ONLY way they'll amount to anything, leaving millions of them outside the box if they either don't want to go to college or circumstances keep them from it.
It's the single greatest disservice we do to our youth these days, this lie the schools tell them....
It leads to the $Billions in college debt everyone is so damn concerned about, the millions of college grads who can't find work in their chosen discipline (and ever-rising numbers of them moving back in with mama after college) and the millions of unfilled jobs going wanting in the skilled trades in our society, leading to all sorts of problems there, too.
Well, Mike Rowe Works does what it can to help bridge that gap, leading to all sorts of wonderful things happening.
You'd think that would be enough for Mike, but noooo….. he also has his voice-over work for those "deadliest catch" tv shows, his own "Somebody's Gotta Do It" show and probably even more impressively, his Facebook show called "Returning the Favor", which I watch religiously.
Every damn episode of that show leaves me in tears, every single one.
The man is doing God's work on that show, simply put. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
His parents are even blessings and everyone gets a kick out of them, too.
Yes, I believe Mike is a national treasure. He does from his heart things our own government SHOULD be doing.
I wish we could clone him.
