MSD 6AL Issues

Just an update I have about a 20 yo MSD 6a in the car not an AL

Reading this thread has taught me RJ Renton sure has a lot of opinions...

6a and 6al have same diagnostic.
First thing to do troubleshooting a msd is put a timing light on it, and see if the timing has changed. Hope you have a timing light that is msd compatible... I didn't read anywhere that has been done yet. After that follow msd manual like mike67 has linked and good luck...

and also thanks to kiwigtx for sharing.

I use a 6AL in my Charger. Been there trouble free for about 20 years. However to maintain the stock OEM look, the box is hidden and uses the original Prestolite dual point to trigger the box. The points seem to last forever as they are not carrying much current as they would in normal use. Another advantage is, if the box ever fails and leave me stranded, switch a couple of wires at the coil and you are on the stock ignition again to get you moving. Mine has never failed though.
