Anyone ever put a Muncie 4 speed behind there big block? I got a Muncie 4 speed on trade for a junk 8 3/4 rear end. Plan on putting it my 70 Charger scraptona build. My brother in law owns a transmission shop he freshened it up for cheap and bottle of bourbon. Got a brand new quick time 6079 belhousing for $100. I’m in this setup pretty cheap so far. Just wondering if anyone had any issues with the install? Thanks for any info.

No but back in the day I put several A833 4 speeds behind Chevy's. Muncie transmissions don't even have a strong enough case let alone gears to handle a good muscle car.

Every muncie I've driven is awful compared to NP.

MUCH harder to find gears and not as positive of an engagement.

You don't want a Munchie! They aren't half as tough as an 833.

input shaft is too short on the muncie; unless you can find a bellhousing to adapt. factory 833 trans and parts are much easier to work with.

There is even a chevy/gm OEM bellhousing that accepts both bolt patterns.

GM used the stronger Borg Warner T10 and aluminum case Super T 10's in many of their performance cars.

I know Hot Heads has an adapter to put a Muncie behind an early Hemi with the cast in bellhousing.
Maybe check with them.

I have the correct Bellhousing. Brand new QuickTime meant to adapt

Some of the stuff above about Muncie’s is pretty stretched, especially about a T10 be stronger. A T10 is not even close to a Muncie in strength. GM developed the Muncie to replace the weak-kneed T10 and Ford did the same with its Toploader. A super T10 is different transmission. But yes, a Muncie is not as ultimately strong as an A833 but it held up behind L88s/LS6s, Buick Stage 1/2 and others. I currently own all 3 - a Muncie, a Toploader and an A833. Of the 3 the Toploader is the sweetest of the bunch for driving, maybe not strength.

But - I can’t see trying to put a Muncie in a Mopar. Everything will turn into a challenge. The pilot bushing, the lower clutch linkage, the speedometer cable, the shift linkage, the shifter mount, the transmission mount, the yoke u-joint, the reverse lights hook up. As Runcharger said, put it up for sale and get an A833.

I have been looking. For a A833 here in Florida people want crazy money for a unit that needs rebuilt. I got to swap meets all the time, most A833 $1200-$1400 plus they need gone through. Right now I have the correct quick time belhousing to bolt up to my 440. Transmission is fresh rebuild. I’m into less than $500. I had Muncie in my Chevelle never no issues. My charger is not going to be some crazy build just a fun car to rip around.

Thanks for all the good reply’s I may test the waters on selling the Muncie. Or keep it. Not really worried about the fitment issues expecting that, Thats the fun of building cars the challenges.

Pretty certain you'd have to fab a crossmember and some drivedhaft mods. Speedometer issues. Maybe a can of worms when you think about just bolting something else in.

I was trying to sell my 23 spline A833 off before the holidays and got down to $800 and not a singe inquiry. It’s going back in my car. There are a few 23 splines advertised recently on the forums in the $900 to $2,000 range. I doubt they find anyone interested. I don’t see the market out there. The 5-speed craze has probably created a bit of a glut of used ones and the demand just isn’t there to support what most people are asking.

So the results from your water test were... it's cold?
