My 1971 Road runner

So since I'm in a waiting for parts (cam & lifters) to come in period I might as well get the engine ready for the final paint.
Since the cylinder heads have been a bare casting till now.....
Sept 3rd (14).jpg
Sept 3rd (15).jpg

I brushed on some primer.
Sept 3rd (16).jpg
Sept 3rd (17).jpg
Sept 3rd (18).jpg

Then I put the front of the engine back on (without gaskets) as those pieces need final paint too.
Sept 3rd (19).jpg

Finally I put the oil pan on, again with no gasket.
Sept 3rd (23).jpg
Sept 3rd (22).jpg
Sept 3rd (24).jpg

I had the sides of the intake shaved as there was a fitment issue with them with the cylinder heads being shaved.
Total amount removed from the sides was 0.050" which is the thickness of the intake gasket.

Yesterday I was able to get some paint on the heads and the rest of the engine.
I used the OER orange paint. More of it got on the outside of the can than on the engine.....

Sept 8th (2).jpg

But the end result was good.

Earlier today I was able to get the final coat of paint on the engine.
This time I used this.
Sept 9th (1).jpg

No issues with the can this time and the result was great.

So I received an e-mail from Summit where I ordered a set of Mopar Performance solid lifters.
They have had the order for 2 weeks now.
The email states that they are refunding my money as they are not able to get the lifters....WTF?

Oh well, what a pain.
So I get on the phone with Crower lifters and talk to their tech guy, Louie.
He says they will manufacture a set of their lightweight and cool face (EDM hole) solid lifters in 2 to 3 weeks.
So I place my order with them.
My engine guy called me and said my Isky cam is made and will be shipping out today.....Sweet!
So, some **** is coming together.

In the meantime, I cleared off all the crap that was on my work bench and unearthed my 4 speed tranny.
Might as well get a start on cleaning it up.
Sept 21st (7).jpg
Sept 21st (8).jpg

Can anyone here identify it?
It does not have the machined pad on the passenger side.
The only casting numbers are these....

Sept 21st (5).jpg

I went on the Brewers website and found out from the part number on the bearing retainer indicates its a 1969.
Sept 21st (1).jpg

Getting it ready for the first coat of primer.
Sept 21st (10).jpg
Sept 21st (11).jpg
Sept 21st (12).jpg

And here's with the primer.
Sept 21st (14).jpg

I brought down my bell housing from the attic to get it ready for paint.
But I thought I might want to see if I have the correct bearing retainer for said housing.
Guess what??? NOPE.
Sept 21st (18).jpg
Sept 21st (19).jpg

So I ask - besides getting another bearing retainer is it possible to machine this one down?
Or can the opening in the bell housing be opened up?

Okay, so I ended up ordering a new bearing retainer thru a local Mopar distributor up here.
Here it is next to the oversized one.

Next, I was able to find a 3 speed wiper motor which I bought and took to have restored.
I just got it back last night - she's a beauty.
Resized_image000000(11)(1).jpeg

And here it is installed.

And finally, my solid lifters have also come in - good news.
1255.jpg

Now I just need the cam to arrive as well as the new dash pad.

So after a bit of a break and while I'm still waiting for my dash pad to arrive I went and installed the new headlight wiring harness I bought thru Year One and manufactured by M&H.
Dec 11th (12).jpg
Dec 11th (11).jpg

Then I put in the long splash shields that go right up front.
Passenger side.
Dec 11th (1).jpg

And the drivers side.
Dec 11th (4).jpg

Finally, I also bought a headlight wiring harness many moons ago off E-Bay (way before I heard about the kit member crackedback has).
Dec 11th (6).jpg
Dec 11th (7).jpg

I removed the plastic wire covering and retaped with proper harness tape.
I hid the relays on the driver side behind the headlights.
Dec 11th (8).jpg
Dec 11th (9).jpg

And ran the wire across the rad support zip tied to the main headlight harness.
Dec 11th (10).jpg

When I purchase some actual headlights I'll plug everything in, plus run a power wire from the starter relay.

I was able to find a set of low/high beam halogen headlights.
Dec 17th (2).jpg

But, as I went to install them, they were not lining up properly with the headlight buckets.
Upon closer inspection I find that I had put the headlight buckets in the wrong locations after painting them.
Apparently they are actually marked for where they are suppose to go.
Dec 17th (3).jpg

So after rearranging them in their proper locations I could install the headlights and buckets together.
Dec 17th (5).jpg

Then do the install.
Dec 17th (4).jpg

Here's the finished product.
Dec 17th (6).jpg
Dec 17th (7).jpg

I have the high beam's on back order from Amazon.

So continuing on, I found the original windshield washer pump.
The washer bottle had a big crack in it and was very brittle, So I bought a reproduction one at my local Mopar car show.
The pump itself was looking ruff, but it does work (I tested it).
Dec 29th (1).jpg
Dec 29th (2).jpg

So it's time to give it a clean-up.
Dec 29th (10).jpg
Dec 29th (11).jpg

Right down to bare steel.
Next I'll give it 2 coats of clearcoat, then install on the washer bottle.
Doing that, now it's back in the engine bay.
Dec 31st (2).jpg
Dec 31st (4).jpg

Next its time to mount some accessories in the engine bay.
First is the chrome ignition box.
Dec 31st (1).jpg

Next is the voltage regulator.
Dec 31st (6).jpg

Here's the firewall as it looks.
Dec 31st (5).jpg

I still need to mount the coil and the throttle cable and the beep beep horn.

Today I was able to mount the coil and the ballast resistor as well as the throttle cable and hook up the wiring harness to all the bits.
Jan 8th, 2023 (2).jpg

I also provided a positive feed wire from the starter solenoid to the headlight relay harness. I wrapped the feed wire into the existing wiring harness that runs to the front of the car.
Jan 8th, 2023 (1).jpg

Here's some more of the wiring harness used on the passenger side.
Jan 7th, 2023 (1).jpg
Jan 7th, 2023 (2).jpg
Jan 8th, 2023 (4).jpg

Please be sure to document where all the wiring goes so I can figure out how to put mine back together :p.

Chad, it's pretty straight forward, but I will certainly do that.
The only issue with the harness that goes to the horn is that they put in 2 wires for a dual horn setup like the Satellite's had.
I'll have to hide the unused horn wire back into the harness.

Thank you! I was joking, well, half-joking I guess :) Your car is coming along very nicely!

Today I was able to finish up the positive cable that runs to the starter.
Since I'm leaving the battery in the trunk, I needed to connect the starter cable to the battery cable.
So, I borrowed a big *** crimper from my good buddy Lloyd.
Jan 22th,2023 (9).jpg

Then, cleaned up the battery cable end.
Jan 22th,2023 (2).jpg

Now the starter cable end along with some DEI heat sleeving.
Jan 22th,2023 (3).jpg

Here's the big butt connector on the starter cable side.
Jan 22th,2023 (4).jpg

Now the whole thing together.
Jan 22th,2023 (5).jpg
Jan 22th,2023 (6).jpg

I left the smaller 2 wires that run to the solenoid longer - when the engine is in the car and the starter hooked up I'll be able to finish up those two smaller wires.

Here's the finished product.
Jan 22th,2023 (7).jpg
Jan 22th,2023 (8).jpg

The only things left in the engine bay to hook up is the beep beep horn and the clutch linkage rod that comes thru the firewall.
The speedo cable will come thru when the dash is going in the car.

After that was done, I tackled the under hood to rad support seal.
The original one wasn't broken or ripped, just dirty.
Jan 22th,2023 (10).jpg
Jan 22th,2023 (11).jpg
Jan 22th,2023 (12).jpg

So I used a combination of lacquer thinner along with some WD40 to clean it up.
Jan 22th,2023 (13).jpg
Jan 22th,2023 (14).jpg
Jan 22th,2023 (15).jpg

So far so good....Now if I can remember how the thing is mounted to the underside of the hood.
Any members here with pics of their seal mounted?

The flap faces forward and it mounts on the front of the hood lip.
