My Buddies 69 Charger.

Thanks kiwigtx. It's been a few days since it happened and he's a pretty leveled headed guy. He's already contacted a shop, just waiting to see what the insurance adjustment comes up with as to whether it'll cover the cost.

Darthomas, that's a great looking vert. Yes, give www.Hagerty.com a look. I also have my Coronet insured with them.

Bladecutter, I hope you are doing well. Yeah definitely a blow to time, money, blood, sweat and tears. I can only imagine how he's been feeling.

Thanks to all for the comments and will wishes. I'll pass them along.

My buddy spent 18 years redoing this Charger as a Day 2 restoration. It's been done for 4 or 5 years now. I've posted pics of it at times on other threads. He's won several Best in Shows and could probably win awards if he were to take it to some of the bigger shows.

It's so painful for me to post these next couple pics. I can only imagine how he's feeling.

He sent me these pics today. It's probably taken him this long to be able to talk about it.
Last Friday, last nice day around here. One last drive. He and his son took the car out here in Mid-Michigan. 72 degrees. Running down a 2 lane road and someone coming the other way crossed the double yellow lines and down the side of the car. No one hurt thankfully. But he is just sick about it. Really bummed for him. It's been a labor of love for him. It was so nice you could eat of the bottom of it. He would drive it whenever it was nice out.

That's a damn shame, sad to see too...

Nice car & I like the style it was too...

It can be fixed but that's no consolation...

Hopefully insurance will help with the assoc. costs,
lots of work...

I feel your pain & anguish too, it'd make me sick to see that happen too...

That's sad. I'm glad I didn't take my car out on that "last nice day", too. That's my kinda luck. I did yard work, ALL day.

Update: Mark and I got a chance to talk on the phone yesterday (Thursday evening). He has gotten an appraisal from the company that Hagerty uses here in MI. They told him up front that if the appraisal was 75% or more of the agreed value then the car would be totalled. Luckily it wasn't that high, I believe in the $50k range though. They were talking about blending the paint etc and Mark explained to them that the car was painted like 15 years ago and the paints have changed a lot and he didn't think the paint was even available now. Hagerty has agreed to a complete respray also. He has it set up to take it to http://www.wingsautoart.com in Ionia, but they won't be able to take the car for a couple months. So far he happy with everything.

Mark also told me that 2 semi's had pulled out of the service station/Mcdonalds. The second one pulled out in front of the truck that swerved and ended up hitting the Charger. The guy really wished he had run into the back of the semi, but that might have been an even worse situation. Just glad everyone was alright. The car will be fixed eventually. It may be even better than what Mark had done and that was very good.

Some pics from about a month ago. The Charger is coming along nicely. Since Mark and a friend did all the body and paint years ago, the shop owner had him help with some of the block sanding of the primer. Mark said he learned a lot.

I liked the "before" pictures better.

At least nearly every panel is available for 2nd gen chargers, right? Glad to see it's being repaired.

Glad to see it's coming back together without any extra headaches. Beautiful Charger!

Yeah, X2 RC, that is a really nice looking work space!

Do you know if the 69 will be sold also? Do you know when they are planning to announce? Ever since the challenger body I've been hoping for a charger. If you have more details, share please!

There is an article on the vinyl top install. One of the next issue will have an article on the collision repair. I believe he got the car back just before the end of the year. He's very happy with it.

I subscribe to Hemmings Muscle Machines and read the vinyl top article only to be shocked when I saw the accident picture at the end of the article. That was in the April 2018 issue. Hemmings stated that they are going to "share Stornant's experience with his classic-car insurer and outline what was involved with the repair" in an upcoming issue.
I was sick for him when I saw the picture and read the crash story.

Mark texted me yesterday, the article on the repair is finally out, so I went and looked at the mail and there is was. I haven’t had time to read it all yet but I will this weekend.
