64 fury won't start p or n but backup lights work not sure of the tranny year got new switch for 64 year threaded stem of old switch snapped off . The old switch is longer going into tranny than new one has tan half moon button. The new one has single nipple on it.Thanks Nick nfcia53@gmail.com

'62-'64 pushbutton switch is on the left, '64 console and all '65-early '68 is second from left. To tell the year of the transmission, look for the part number stamped in the left side just above the pan gasket.

The tan switch sticks far enough into the case that sometimes the rooster comb won't clear the threaded portion of the switch. This can cause the shifter to hang up. The reverse light function is in the shifter itself in 64.

Thanks for the info Nick

So it looks like you have the correct switch. If the old switch was a single pin it shouldn't have been deeper into the case than the correct (cable shift/non push button) switch. The all metal switch sets shallower. Is the shift cable adjustment correct? Ohm meter should show continuity to ground in neutral and park only. Best way to adjust is with the pan off.
