there was a guy selling a slant 6 here in aus a few weeks back, drag motor ran a 8 sec qtr so you can get the power out of it, but nothing beats a big block, but just remember if you do go the BB route you will have to change things like k member, gearbox, fuel lines, diff, brakes, etc.

but this is completely your decision,

First off, thanks for your service. I think the answer is simple, what did you want "a big block" do it. You can keep all of the original stuff just incase but if you wanted a big block your not going to be content driving around a 6 cylinder. What good is drawing attention to a car because of it's rare nature if you don't enjoy it after all that's what it's all about "ENJOYMENT".

Benno440,please allow me to dissagree with you.The steering box does not need to be changed and the exsisting "K" frame can be used as well with a big block or a hemi.I also was in the 10's before I changed to a dual resovoir master and upgraded my 6 cylinders front brake shoes.

You guys have all been great, I appreciate all the comments. I already started the restoration, and I'm not changing a thing. I think I'll have it done by the summer, since most of the vehicle is still in tact. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance. Thanks again everone ... well, all except the guy who sent me a private message trying to convince me I should sell the car to him, since it really wasn't going to be worth the money I put into it. :)

Welcome and I see you're getting some good advice already. Sounds as if you are keeping it original and that in itself will keep the value up if you do end up selling it sometime. Heck, everything is for sale for the right price right? At that point in time you could buy/build the big block car you want.
Either way, enjoy.
And thank you very much for your service, just take the percautions to come back home to enjoy your car and talk to us!

I'm a ford boy, Mustang to be exact...That might not go over too good here but-
I found a 68 rotting in the field and my brother was quick to snatch it for cheap! Im glad he did because it also is the "Leaning Tower of Power" slant 6 Three on the tree car I've got some pics but im not sure if i'll figure out how to get them on.

If anyone has any more info on this rare car let me know!

Also the car might be for sale, He needs funds for his 1970 Mach 1 Project.PICT7044.jpg

is your brother willing to sell it whole as a parts car? If so, I may be interested.

As many have already said, I say build your dream ride however you imagine it. And if it means doing modifications just keep the original parts on-hand. That's what I'm doing with my '69! Good luck with the project and have fun! :icon_thumleft:
And thank you for your service!

You can't put a price on a dream! Glad to see you've started the resto!

[QUOTEthere's one up here in Seattle area....last I heard, 5 had come out of the woodwork.
QUOTE]

There was probably alot more made than that. My rusty 68 parts donor was originally a /6 3 on the tree car. When I got it, it was just a shell. Someone before me had robbed the engine, trans, & all the related three speed components. They even removed the VIN from the dash. Kind of makes me wonder if that stuff was transplatented to another 68. They forgot to nab the stamping from the radiator support so I know what mine originally came with *. It may not be a powerhouse, but I think the oddness of it definately puts it in the cool category.

* After some research today, I discoverd the number on the core support is the SO number, not the VIN. I do know mine was an original manual 3 on the tree car ( clutch rod boot & Z bar bracket on fraimrail is still there, but no hole or hump in the trans tunnel). I am not sure now if it was originally a /6 or a 318 car. It has a V8 k-frame in it, but that could have been changed when the other drivetrain parts & VIN were removed.

Anyway, cool ride to the original poster ! Its your car so you can do whatever you like to it, but if it was mine, I would keep it as it is.
