New wheel backspace issue

Bought new 15x8 Wheel Vintiques with a 4.5" backspace. When I checked the backspacing on the wheel and my figure is 4 3/4". The pic shows where Im measuring from. Am I missing something here or are the rims actually 4 3/4 ?

Disagree. Where your tape is contacting the center is not where the rim contacts the drum. Measure from either of the ribs surrounding the lug holes. I bet you find that 1/4".

In your specific case, the contact point. Normally, you would be right.
