No dash back lighting?

Hello I'm new to the form and have a electrical question. I have a 1964 dodge polara . The question I have is, everything works in the cluster but the back lighting. I check for power at the inst fuse. I have no power on either side of the fuse. Does the power come from the cluster to the fuse or from the headlight switch to the fuse? I know that the headlight switch has to be out one or two clicks for the backlighting to come on but I don't know is if the back light have power at all times and the headlight switch completes the circuit or if the headlight switch supplies the power when on? I pulled the headlight switch connector and checked the tan wire for power with the ign turned on. No power found so I'm at a loss.

check to see if the headlight switch,which supplies the power,has a rehostat.see if it rotates.if it does,and is turned too far,it could cause what you are explaining.if not,you will prob need a wiring diagram to find the spot of the power loss.

The headlight switch supplies the power. It won't matter what position the ignition switch is at., Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Autozone would have a replacement for a few bucks, I think SW151 would fit.

Ok. If you are sure the headlight switch supplies the power it has to be the switch. So if I pull the connector at the headlight switch and put 12 volts to the tan wire the back lighting should come on right?
