I have a 69 charger factory AC car. Came with a 5.25x1.25” water pump pulley. I have Removed all of the factory AC components and will not be putting AC back on anytime soon. I am needing a 5.25x1.75” water pump pulley so that it will line up with my power steering pump pulley. I am having a hard time finding this, but I know it exists as I am not the only one that has done this change. Anyone out there know where I can find this (have part number etc)? I’m keeping the 4 grooves crankshaft pulley. I know there are a ton of threads in this but I have not been able to find specific part numbers.

Change out both pulleys. They are readily available at the normal restoration parts sources.

Change out what other pulley outside of WP? The crankshaft? I shouldn’t have to change that out.

The power steering belt does not go around the water pump pulley..... it is only driven from p/steering to the crank pulley. I might
have the correct single groove water pump
pulley.

My experience is this. Very little is the same A/C vs non A/C. This means crank and water pump pulleys as well as brackets.

Yeh I did see that website but all I’m seeing is over 6”. Thanks man

You need to swap out the crank to a 2 groove and get the water pump that 440 source shows. Believe me you are doing it the hard way and you will find that there will be belt mis-alignment. Best thing is to find a non-ac car and take it all.

Alright so I found the correct two groove crankshaft pulley and single groove water pump pulley. Bought from a friend locally so that has worked out great. I did not realize how easy it would be to remove the crank pulley. Here is my question. So I also have a 68 that was a non ac car that I put a vintage air kit on. It has a 3 grooved crankshaft pulley and a 6.25 inch water pump pulley. I didn’t change any pulleys when I put the ac kit on because all my belts lined up. Would there be any benefit to putting the 4 groove ac crank and 5.25” water pump on the non ac car that now has ac? They have different motors. The 68 has a 440 and the 69 that the pulleys came off of has a 383 (not sure if they’re even compatible). Not trying to go down a rabbit hole here but am curious if there are any benefits in doing this.

I think the 4 groove crank pulley will physically contact any of the standard non-ac water pump pulleys. Best bet is to do as suggested above and get a whole new setup that will line up and not interfere with each other.

Just keep in mind the water pumps were different on the non AC cars as i have been down this road (All original factory AC GTX 440) to do it rite you will need the pulleys and pump as the non AC cars had a larger 8 vane pump and the AC cars had a smaller 6 vain pump they both fit in the housing it is the fact that if you put the non AC pulleys on the AC pump it will run to fast and cavitate causing the engine to over heat. I don't remember the exact numbers but the non AC pump has a reduction of approx .9 to 1 and the AC pump runs approx. 1.4 to 1 so make sure you match everything up or you will be fighting a heating issue you might not be able to see. What i am saying is it is a matched set water pump and pulley as well as crank pulley you need to make sure they are the matched ones so you don't run your pump to fast or to slow. If you leave the AC pump on the engine you need to leave the pulley dia. the same. It is all about the flow!!!

Oh Jesus. So is the water pumps on the 383 and 440 interchangeable? I replaced my non ac water pump on my 68 with a new one when I put the ac on it. Wondering if I can use that one ☝️ n the 69. I’ll check the pump when I get home as it’s just sitting on a shelf in my shop

Yes they are all interchangeable between the 361, 383, 400, 426 and 440.

Ok, that’s a relief.

So going back to my question on the pulleys. I left the pulleys on the 68 when I put the vintage AC kit on it (the belts all lined up). So now I am wondering if I need to put the 4 groove crank and 5.25 inch water pump that I just took off the 69 on the 68? I am assuming that since the water pumps are interchangeable as you noted then so are the pulleys (i.e. are the same size AC crank and water pump pulleys were used on both the 383 and 440 cars?). I have had a slight overheating problem on the 68 even before the AC was put on it. It has improved since I changed out the radiator, but it still needs a shroud.

Looks like I don’t have don’t have to buy a new water pump at least. The one I took of the other car is a 8 blade.

The 68, if original, has a different style water pump housing, The brackets are all completely different than the 69 and later style. So you might end up with alignment issues trying to install 69 pulleys on a 68.

Got it. It’s definitely not original. The 68 was originally a 318 car. Should be pretty easy looking at the two water pump housings on the two cars to see if they are the same?
