68 charger… i have no interest at this time to tear apart dash to troubleshoot factory gages, so bought aftermarket gages, oil pressure, voltage, water temp, fuel gage….
3 of 4 work perfectly. Gas gage- not so much. Purchased correct ohms gage for Mopar…has excellent ground, turn on ignition and needle moves up from empty to just past empty. There is 7-8 gallons in brand new tank & sending unit (according to previous owner).
Ideas to what is going on?
I contacted gage manufacturer, had me test the gage itself, and checks out fine…..

The bane of the industry has been the slipshod quality of sending units for our b-bodies - they're pretty much all
Chinese junk.
There is now rumor of someone out there finally making a good one, though - perhaps someone will chime in
with a first-hand witnessing of same?

You can't take the last owners word on how much gas is in the tank.
the gauge may work just fine.
2 options to know for sure.

1) Fill it all the way up. But then you cannot remove sender

2) Drain and measure what's in there

Kinda like Russian roulette, do you trust what someone tells you or do you check and make sure?

So you’re saying it’s probably the sender?

Car is “brand new” close to rotisserie rebuild. Has brand new tank, sender, fuel pump etc.
I put the 8 gallons in, in order to perform the initial start up….. didn’t want to fill, for fear of possible leaks…knock on wood none yet.
Gage should be reading between 1/3 and just under 1/2 full

I have one of the supposably correct working one, haven't fueled it up yet will be a while, a few months still. I kept the old one which still works, missing the sock, so worst case results I'll remove the sock from the new one and swap it out. Almost did it in the first place but I'm a glutton for punishment

Care to share info on the “correct working one”?

this is a link on calibration 73ohm empty and a little over 10ohm full tank.

Okay I'll share it ONE more time! 3/8 sending unit from Vans Auto. Factory in dash gage. IT READS CORRECTLY!
Yes it may be a fluke, but it works. My 2 cents RUFFCUT

Yes, but will it work with aftermarket gages? (Sounds like you’re good at sharing) lol

So if my gage reads just above empty with 8 gallons in tank, its just an adjustment like the video?
Sounds like we all don't know what sender you have.. and the one in the video looks like some sort of universal jobby. I've never seen one with "adjustments" like that.
The proper ohm range should be built in, and any adjustment is a tweak to the float arm.
What does your sender currently show for ohms?
Have you fired the car and burnt half that gas?

Car has been started and run up and down the driveway (not registered yet)
Not sure how to check sender for ohms
